Voigtlander Bessa R5d Digital Body

I would love to see Cosina Voigtlander team up with Kodak and produce a digital full frame rangefinder for use with all its great lenses. I am sure many of us would love a less expensive alternative to the M9.

The point being if they could use the Nikon D3/D3x/700 high ISO full frame chip (Kodak) in a redesigned Bessa R body with the choice of Vogtlander's own lenses as well as Leica ... what a possibility.

GAME ON I cannot see how this would not be a great boost to the company and the rangefinder world in general ...

One can always hope, there's like 20 threads on this subject filled with opinions of other people who also hope.

In this case it's the hope for the unattainable. If it was just hope for an affordable digital rangefinder... well, M8s are approaching USD 2000 and R-D1s well below USD 1500, a digital full-frame Bessa won't be cheaper than that anyway. So, the affordable digital rangefinder is there already! But that's boring, that's realistic. So in order to go on hoping, we have to move the goalpost and hope for... an affordable FULL FRAME digital rangefinder. That's about it. it's not about actual cameras really, it's only about hoping and talking.
 
Do not think little of the work by leica in M8 and M9. Building a digital RF camera is far beyond the capability of Cosina.

If fewer threads like this were posted would you think it more or less likely that manufactures would consider making such a camera?
 
I understand that these threads pop up all the time and it probably is a long shot, but why do so many people immediately dismiss the idea of a new Cosina digital rangefinder? Is this not the same company that has surprised us all countless times before? Who would have thought that in 1999 there'd be a market for a new, non-Leica rangefinder system? This is the company that gave us the 35/1.2, the 50/1.1 (for $1000!), the R4a/m (with internal framelines for 21 and 25mm lenses!), a NEW coupled 120 with built in meter and a complete range of lenses that rival Leica at a fraction of the cost. Or what about that 15-35 zoom finder or an RF coupled 15mm M mount lens for under $600?

My point is, this is the company that is always pushing the envelope and coming out with new products for a supposedly obsolete method of picture taking. Why is it so hard to believe that this same company would not also produce a new DRF of their own?
 
By all accounts, Mr Kobayashi is not the greatest fan of digital cameras in general - this may have something to do with why CV haven't (and likely won't) produced a digital RF.

And to all the naysayers here... Are you not paying attention to what's been happening to sensor technology over this past decade?? Are you not reading about current developments in sensor technology?? OF COURSE there will be a full-framed camera that does what a MP can do!! Its only a matter of time... and very little time, I believe. Engineers are learning about a lot of new ways to capture photons. And high-quality sensors are getting cheaper and cheaper and cheaper.

The camera we're waiting for MAY not be made by Cosina, although I don't see why they wouldn't. At some point, the difficulties created by current sensor technology will be completely overcome. I think there is plenty of pent-up demand for high image quality, quiet, interchangeable-lens, optical viewfinder cameras. DSLRs don't provide this; Micro Four-Thirds don't do this; and the M9's image quality will soon be considered mediocre and certainly WAY too little 'bang for the buck'.

I'm thinking that we'll see the camera we're waiting for within the next three years. (I said "5 years" two years ago here.)
