The ZI is awfully nice, but doesn't break new ground. The R4 is really a great idea, so I voted for it. Any digital camera (M8 included) has too short a product life to really be worth talking about, in my view.
had a M7 been on the list, it would have been a harder choice, but I voted for the Zeiss... though in truth, unless I suddenly won the Lotto I don't think I'll be buying either one. (OTOH, I think my IIIc is actually "cooler" than either... even if it is kind of a pain in the arse).
Although coming down to earth I think I will eventually get a Nikon D700 and the new AFS 50/1.4G lens. I like the idea of shooting at such high ISOs.
I'm of the opinion that there are no pocket digicams worth a fart, they're all crappy with tiny controls and bogus features. The best one yet has been my 5-yr old's Fisher Price -- simple and bombproof.
For out-of-production cameras I like usable and semi-affordable ones, so exotic Alpas and such are off my list. But in order of size, I like the Leica IIIc w a Summitar or Elmar; an M3DS w a Summilux; a Rolleiflex 2.8E2 Planar/no meter; a Noblex 612UX; a 4x5 Linhof Technika IV with a modern cammed 150mm APO Symmar; an 8x10 Sinar Norma w a 14" Commercial Ektar.
I've actually owned them all, just not at the same time. And even if I did collect them all, then I'd also want a great darkroom full of Durst and a workstation with twin huge monitors, a Creo scanner, and the honking 44" inkjet, an addition on the house or a studio next door.... That is the part that sucks!
Anything in black paint, with the brass peeping through in the right places -- preferaby owned from new. (I have Nikon F, Leica MP and Olympus Pen W in this category, only the MP from new.)
Contax IIa's are very cool.
The one I have doesnt even speak to my SLR's, and they get all silent but fidgety when its in the room.
And they are still available; I know, I just bought one.
