hi recently i had obtain a canon VT deluxe but the viewfinder window and rangefinder window is dusty , is it a hard job to take off the top cover and clean this two part considering i am a real amateur with no experience of opening up a camera before?

if it is operable, anyone able to share on how to open up the camera top part to clean the window? thanks

P/S: this is to clean the window only and some internal dust if possible, not the beam splitter or reflection mirror which i understand the silver will be wipe off if not handle in care which will literally "kill" the camera.

Haven't done this in years, but you'll have to remove all the obvious screws from the top deck, the flash synch on the end of the camera, the shoe assembly, the round rangefinder window, the shutter speed dial and the film winding knob.

Of course you'll need the right tools (jeweler's screwdrivers). I can't say this is a terribly difficult job, but it might be a bit intimidating at first. If you're still game, find a nice work area, take some pics with a digital camera as you proceed with the disassemble, and take notes. Don't force anything and don't be in a hurry. Since these cameras were made on an assembly line, assembly and disassembly are actually pretty logical. If I can find my old repair manual, I'll post a diagram of the procedure later on.
