Richard Youse's House in 2001

youse-yard1.jpg

January, 2008. Mr. Youse had died and his house had been demolished. The field was expanded over the former site of the house and yard, leaving only the old windmill tower standing. It had been in the backyard, about 20 feet behind the house.

This is Richard Youse in February, 2001. He was 87 years old and lived in this ruined old house with 15 cats. His parents bought the house in 1924, and he lived there until shortly before his death in 2005. He never married or had children. His house was in the southeast part of Allen County, Indiana, near the town of Hoagland. About 15 miles from Fort Wayne, which is also in Allen county. Mr. Youse's nearest neighbor was a mile away; he owned more than 1000 acres of farmland. You can see more photos of Mr. Youse, his cats, and his home on my website:

A sequence is where each image follows in a logical order or a recurrent pattern.

Duane Michals is one of the better known users of this technique, although it's equally applicable to street photography and action sequences.
