I was originally commenting on the 'with no words' thing, as I thought it meant that pics would be posted without comment, but having read your comment and having had another look at the pics in this thread, I notice a lot of the pics actually do have words in them, such as names of businesses or labels etc. so on both counts my first comment stands*.
*= It still stands even though there's a typo in it.

Are you pondering the meaning of the "Words/No words" category? I think it means you can either post pictures with words, or just photos without words; your choice. And people can post comments freely.

So, with the benefit of these contributions, what would have been the best name for this thread? Photographing the ordinary? And what should photos of this type be called? What is the category? Ordinary photos? Something that doesn't preclude the photos being well made, but the subject is ordinary and doesn't have to be artsy.

Nice. I can hear Ry Cooder in the background.
And Wim Wenders walking around town with his camera.....

It's a fascinating study in composition.
The title is great As-Is. In fact it adds to the intrigue.

Rob-F, that photo is more than "nothing", as it has a pleasant reasonable composition, and subject... and to me the "psychic" signs are something special! The big one high up next to the ATM sign is written in my Black Chancery font, also the white neon one which has to be the first time I've seen my font done up in neon! Pretty special...
Hmmm, let me concentrate on the currents in the ether... I devine that would be in Manhattan/NYC!

Doug, yes, it is on or about west 56th street, I believe. And you are a type font designer? That's impressive!
I am still searching for a name for the sort of photos I've been posting here. "Nothing" is not it. It has to do with showing what's there, whether photogenic or not. "I saw this, it is what it is," or "I went someplace and saw this" maybe.

Ya know, it's kinda difficult to truly satisfy the "nothing in particular" criterion.

I would suggest "simply like this" or something similar...

I took this with "nothing special" in mind, when I was planning this thread. Later, I thought it went too far in the "nothing special" direction. But I think it does express the lower limit of nothing special, just short of "nothing at all."
