It does since the essence of rain translates into black and white. I've tried some color pics but they don't entice a response. This said I'm in the pre-monsoon season; this afternoon we clocked 41C and so I stayed indoors and took care of the house and took some pics in the upstairs bathroom where the temperatures were in the high 40s. Cheers, OtL

Striking, isn't it, how many black and white photos there are in this thread. Would black and white have anything to do with rain?

Erik.

In the last couple of years I’ve been embracing B&W more than ever before.

Initially I started shooting in black & white because it seemed to be kind of trendy, and that may appear to be a bit shallow on my part but I think trends can be influential, that’s why they’re trends. Anyway, after a while I started to become addicted to monochrome. Everything started to look better in black and white. I was hooked! Hell, I started taking pictures of cherry blossoms in monochrome!

As a self-critical-analyzer… meaning, I was questioning myself; I questioned myself - why, why, why the sudden (it took a year) embrace of B&W? And, I think it comes down to this: in some situations color can be "distracting" from the main subject. Not all situations, but enough situations that it has to be a constant decision factor in WTF am I going to do… color or b&w.

I’m so glad to get that out in the open. Yes, rain pictures do look better in black & white!

Mike
