Worst Hotel Room you've ever been.

This is mine in Mozambique. A very Kistch room, by the way.

Here's a tiny, dinky, small little room in Amsterdam. Overlooked the Red Light District on one side (read: loud until 3am) and the toilet was down the hall. It was cheap, but there was no way I was staying another night. One was plenty!

I was about to say the same thing! lol

Although, I did stay in some places in Amsterdam, where rooms were not that much bigger and yet pretty pricey - they were in the center, so I guess thats how it goes even for a 4 star hotels there.

This one is in North Tonawanda, suburb of Buffalo, New York... $40 cash only, no paper work, Plexi-guard between clerk and guest... note the air freshener on the bed post.

Sheets and bathroom were clean!

Mirror on the ceiling with carpeted 2x4 frame. Walls had the shag too, had a bamboo bar -- it must have been a hip place in 1976.

There is another near my house that is $45 and clean, just older, I've shot there a few times and it was fine. But in general, when I can afford it, I much rather shoot at nicer places like the ACE or Standard in LA or NYC ;-) they are very photogenic.

With this Summer's plague of bed bugs I am not crazy about visiting NYC until it cools off and they clean the city.... hmmm maybe never, right?

While it is very nice and over $200, the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo, California is a freaking fantastic and tacky location. Unfortunately it is clean haha.

I once had to send one of my team to Milan to nurse an injection tool through the toolmakers for final testing. It was fashion week, so no rooms anywhere at any price.

I phoned a contact of mine to see what could be done and he was back on the phone within the hour with a room - amazing!

So we packed Brian off to Milan for 48 hours, and got back a very shaken man. The room was in one of those hotels that charge by the hour, and he got about 2 hours sleep in the 48!

The guy was 62 and very married - he never forgave me.......

is the madonna inn also the place that is famous for the urinals in the public restroom? some long-dead relative of mine told me "you have got to see the men's room in this place!" is that the place? or do I have the wrong hotel? the comment was that the urinals were rather baroque.

I never peed in the main restaurant but it sounds about right.

The best urinals were in this Philipe Starke designed 80s NYC hotel, one of those Ian Schrager jobs (sp?) and nothing made any sense... you go into the john and look for the urinals and can't find them until you touch this Stainless Steel wall and a cascade of water flows down, washing your pee away. Almost made a mess ;-)

Frank, I'm sitting in a house down the Jersey Shore (as a native Chicagoan, I had to learn that ungrammatical construction "down the shore") that we bought from a guy who was Shrager's facilities manager back then. Unfortunately, our bathrooms lack the exotic design elements from the hotels. Just good, old-fashioned American Standard commodes (the one in the master bedroom, prone to the flush mechanism coming disconnected). This same fellow was friends with the singer Frankie Vallie. The year after we bought the house from him, he tried to put Vallie in touch with us to rent the house for a few weeks. Although it never came to pass, rumors spread around town that one of the Four Seasons was resident in our house. Frankly, I think Frankie Vallie would have best suited to stay at the Fountainbleu in Miami (pre-renovation).
