For a change, I had my Walgreen's do a CD when I got the last roll developed. Generally, I get a set of prints, pick what I like and scan/reprint what I want for display or distribution.

The prints are generally of lousy quality-my scans look fine with nearly no adjustment required.

Well, the scans on the CD looked pretty good, too, albeit at 1300 PPI. So, I wondered how they'd print at 5x7 and up, going below the magic 300 DPI print spec I'd always heard was needed.

Seems 150 DPI is durn near impossible to tell in a blind print comparison from 300.

Lessons learned-the printing problem at the local store is either paper or chemistry related.

And we really get carried away with resolution/file sizes in our photography. All those massive TIFF files. Sheesh.
