To Light & Love ...
I too must be equally as Crazy.... Plain stinkin crazy with All the advances in the techno digi World, but i too will have an M8 (again)
This will be my last attempt at shooting digital, will pick 'her' up today
Had the M8 when it originally came out...it lasted me a week before I went back to film, no real issues just that purpplish hue when shooting color
But I'm really just a B&W girl
So heres to a new Attitude
Don't mind the crop factor.... Will love having & focusing a window w/RF
And the ease of Simplicity/ No crazy complicated menus to scroll thru
Wish me Luck.

The M8 shines at B/W this is in camera conversion sharpening low, contrast medium high. No filters. Both on the Summicron 28mm ASPH.

Ooooh, Helen's getting a digital M, ace! I know you're a fan of black and white too, I almost exclusively shoot my M8 for b&w
My black and white conversions are just using colour filters in the post and juggling the colour levels until I get the balance of tones that give the greatest contrast and balance

On the topic of SD cards- I just have a single 16GB Extreme III, and I feel like the write time is extremely long. Does this camera not really like large-capacity cards?
You can put the fastest SD card in the world in the M8, of any brand, and you'll still get long write times. I think I timed it out a 2.5 seconds to process a JPEG a tad shorter for DNG. It's the camera's imaging processor that's bottleneck, not the card.
As far as the myriads of problems that a couple of people listed I've never experienced them. No lock-ups or any of that sort of thing. No troubles at all. Personally, I've found the ISO usable to 1250. I've had people claim that I was crazy, but I've photographed many concerts with it with relatively little trouble. I wouldn't try to shoot in dark alleyways every night, but even in those situations I've pulled out some keepers. People that complain about the ISO performance should really consider buying a different camera. If I'm shooting an event in a dimly lit venue, I'm bringing my Df, not my Leica. The right tools for the job, as they say.
I traded away my M8 for a Zeiss Ikon and some cash about a month ago. I made the trade back yesterday. I really like my M8 and I missed it even though I have an M9-P as well. I typically use the pair with a Voigt 28 Ultron on the M8 (≈35mm) and a 50 Cron or Lux on the M9-P. Mine is also the "blacked-out" version. I like it that way.
I was glad to get the M8 back since spring is coming and it's a stunning IR camera that requires no conversion. Just slap on a Hoya R72 and roll with it. Living in Seattle with the verdant green flora on sunny days you can get some amazing IR shots.
In any case, as long as you don't expect it to perform beyond it's limits, which are very well documented by this point, I'm sure you'll enjoy the M8. The only regret I have had about the M8 is when I got rid of it.

The M8 is quite nice, but has issues that are solvable.
Good color can only be had with UV/ir filters. You should code lenses 35 mm and shorter or use corner fix + raw. Profile the camera color with adobe profile editor.
if you do not like the colors the Germans picked.

Only lost Files the once. Some nice pics I seem to remember!
Of the fishing boats & the old Track Marshals they used to pull them up the beach with at Cley, North Norfolk Coast.
Near where the US Helicopter went down a few months ago.
Very sad, but if I had a choice of where I would end my days, it would be within a mile or two that spot.
I had quite a few issues with a loan M9 when my M8 was back at Sohns.
Maybe it is just me!

Awhhh Hepcat, i haven't shot anything 'Worthy', not just yet
Been toooo Cold for catching the Street Life in Motion
But i'm liking its subtlety in rendering b&w.... Simple 10 megapixel sensor over the hyper realism of the super duper modern pixel
So before anyone throws stones at my choice.
Keep in mind its purely subjective - that old dinosaur sensor makes me Smile

Nothing dinosaur about the M8 sensor, Helen. I have my M8 for sale, but only because I need the funds for medium format gear. I still have my M9P though. I'm going to miss the M8 when it's gone.
