Hello folks,
I'm new to the forum and would like to add Leica P&S cameras for your discussions. Besides my M6 stuff I also have a Minilux and a Leica C3 which give very good results. The Minilux allows you to set distance and f-stops while the C3 has all auto feature. The Minilux has a fixed 40mm f2.4 Summarit lens and it's extremely sharp and compact to carry around. The C3 is part of the Leica C series that has a very useful zoom range of 28-90mm lens. The C3 is a fully auto camera and it yields excellent results as well. I recently gone back to film and have been using these cameras again for all my shooting needs. I find the RF cameras are the most responsive cameras for spontaneous subjects. I get my negs scanned for 5 bucks and do all manipulations via PS tool.

It may be a bit OTm but thats something I would like to know also, because as much as I like my Canonet, it does tend to overexpose in bright light, is a bit too big to put in my pocket and sometime I would like to use the on board flash without having to carry the external one. AF is also a plus. Does anyone know how the Minilux and CM compare to the like of such fuxed lens rangefinders, aprt from price of course.

regards

Stephen

I've used a QL17 (G3) in the past and am using a Minilux now. To cut a long story short, I never really liked the Canonet, and I have fallen in love with the Minilux.

The only thing in which the Canonet comes out ahead in is the viewfinder. Although I didn't find it very good compared to my Bessas, it's certainly much better than the Minilux's little peephole.

Other than that, the Minilux is quieter and faster to operate. The Summarit gives me much better results compared to the Canon, albeit at one stop slower. While neither camera is truly pocketable (unless you have huge pockets), the Minilux is much smaller.

Plus, I think I prefer aperture priority to shutter priority AE. :)

I would like to put in a word for the Leica Mini 3. Super lens f3.2 32mm Summar. tiny little thing, quiet and focusses on first pressure of shutter button so no delay. It has been FAR more reliable the the Minilux I had ( three repairs then failed again!! ) Takes great slides.
