What are you listening to at the moment?

Yeah, most people here seem to have a pretty wide range in tastes. I too listen to everything.

One band that Im really getting into at the moment is the grateful dead. Currently listening to:

Yeah, Shuffle on iTunes right now too. The last 5 were Duke Ellington at Newport, Dire Straights, Peter Gabriel, Beethoven's 8th Symphony and right now Styx (shrug. They were the first record I bought too long ago... :) )

At the time of this thread's first post, I was listening to Fox News on the TV; now it's just the gentle sounds of the evening, a bit of traffic occasionally, filtered through the buzzing of my tinnitus.

gary numan, richard hell, patti smith, ian dury. oldies but goodies. got some furry lewis and leadbelly, too, when i'm relaxing.

Just got (via Amazon) and listening The Queen - Platinum Edition Greatest Hits I, II, III with my 11 month old son. He obviously like Bohemian Rhapsody very much  . Miles Davis - Kind of Blue and Doo-Bop are next on my music "menu"!

At the moment mostly either alternative country (16 Horsepower and Calexico, mostly), and jived-up Eastern-European folk music (Goran Bregovic, Fanfare Ciocarlia, Boban Markovic Orkestar, etc.).
But I like a lot of other stuff as well, depending on my mood - from 1950s jazz (Chet Baker, Miles Davis), to Afro-Cuban music, to 1970s funk (I love Curtis Mayfield), to Brasilian music, to baroque orchestral music, to some mellow electronic dance stuff (Massive Attack, Rockers HiFi), to 1980s/early '90s alternative/punk type music (which I grew up with - Pixies, Hüsker Dü, Sonic Youth, Replacements, Green on Red, Gun Club, Nick Cave, Lemonheads, Dinosaur J. etc.).
The only things I can't stand at all are opera (those singers make my teeth want to fall out, and I have a thorough dislike for pathos), top 40s mainstream sh*t (Britney Spears et al.), and 1970s prog rock dinosaurs (hey, I was a punk rocker once...).

PS: This type of thread seems to crop up every few months...

Seems strange that no one has mentioned Sergio Mendez and Brazil xx. He had some pretty far out stuff. Does nobody like Brubeck any more? Maybe I am just showing my age.

Not Sergio Mendez, but Bebel Gilberto at the moment and Gilberto Gil next.
And I have Take Five somewhere :)

I've been on a serious Steely Dan jag for the past couple months, so at any time it's likely playing somewhere nearby.

Harry Nilsson is always a favorite. Good contrast with Wally and Don.
I've been practicing my stride piano as well, and the particular study is "Mess Around," by Ray Charles, so that's often playing. Doesn't sound the same without the drums, bass, and horns, though- but it's fun (like Joplin!) to play.

And I've a vision to make a music video- of crew cuts, and birth-control glasses- white shirts, black pants/socks/shoes, of a Dave Brubeck look-alike on the piano, Paul Desmond, &c. playing Blue Rondo A la Turk (or anything else from Time Out- except for "Take Five")...
Next frame would be two little girls singing Liberty catalogue number 55022, as Patience and Prudence.

Starting to free associate. Just quit smoking again this morning. It's going to be a long day. As Opus said about Steve when he quit: "Into the abyss!"

I swear I didn't read this far into the thread before I posted... :-D

Hehe . . Bossa nova is always good, except in the moorings, if it aint Sunday then.
Prefer Antônio Carlos Jobim or João Gilberto, bus Brazil 66 (?) has some nice stuff, but where to find it on CD?

Right now it´s silent but Itunes is opening in the background, what to chose, Leftfields Leftism or Chet Baker ?

It´s a hard life . . :D
