I am listening to Matthew Sweet and the "new" Big Star album, I am back on a power pop kick after 5 years of jazz, soul, funk which is still part of my life. If there is one band I would recommend that would be The Nines. They are based out of Toronto, if you like late period XTC, Ben Folds, Velvet Crush than this would be your cup 'o' tea.

cp_ste-croix said:Nice! Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies do punk covers of adult contemporary classics (think Neil Diamond/Elton John and other great 80's roadtrip with my dad type songs).
They are a tonne of fun and everyone knows all the words.
7 Seconds did a great cover of 99 red ballons back in the early 90s.

Now I'm into the Horslips. Probably the Pogues after that. Then I check my eyelids for cracks.

Is "The Book of invasions" on CD? I lost my vinyl of that one long ago.
This morning it's Bee Bop Deluxe and probably The Boomtown Rats next.

"Little Birdy", a band from Perth, Australia with a female lead vocalist who has a voice to die for (sort of a Kate Bush sound with moments of Chrissie Hinds and Stevie Nicks) with plenty of rhythm and guitar. Also Fabienne Del Sol, which even my children, 6 and 8 really enjoy.
