What are you listening to at the moment?

Sports Talk Radio during the day. I get good reception in my office and it serves as light, live background noise.

http://www.pandora.com - coolest site i've found in a while... you type in an artist or song title, then it streams anything it thinks is similar - good stuff - typing in wilco or the shins results in a party too :)

Thanks for the Pandira tip.

It reminds me a bit of Hear Music when they started out (they are now owned by Starbucks!).
In the store they had listening stations set up with featured artists and the music that artist liked. So you would have, say Rickie Lee Jones, with 1 or 2 of her albums available for listening but also half a dozen of her favorites as well, and a little written blurb about each selection from Rickie. A great way to discover new stuff.

Anyway, I will check out the Nick Drake station soon.

Today in the car I played Bill Monroe At His Best, which is in fact a subtle concert recording on Hollywood Records. Fantastic.

Rossini also wrote a Stabat Mater. Great piece, although perhaps a touch too cheerful. My recording has the beautific Carol Vaness.

Now i'm listening to a really wierd little album called "Minatures". A friend of mine taped from his album copy years ago.

The premise is that each track is no more than a minute long. A number of artists were asked to present a track: The Residents, Robert Wyatt, Fred Frith, Steve Miller, Robert Fripp, Micheal Nyman amoungest the 51 tracks on it.

The best and the inspiration for the album is the last track: Pete Seegar playing Ludwig van Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" on Banjo

It's a really interesting and funny album
 
I listened to an old compilation of the Swiss band Yello in the car yesterday when I was out prowling around getting stuff done. They were ahead of their time.
