What brand of DSLR do you use?

I currently shoot with three Sony Alpha DSLR's; the A200, A500 and A550, and a large compliment of A-mount glass. (Sony, vintage Minolta Maxxum, Samyang)

I am a Canon user though it came about largely because Nikon digital equipment tends to be more expensive. For instance, when I got my DSLR two years ago, I desperately wanted a D300, but because of the price I got a EOS 50D, which was just as nice and quite a bit cheaper. Furthermore, I got me an adapter for my Nikon lenses (I have an F2S) and am able to use those on my Canon: win, win!

My decision to buy Nikon was consciously based on the same retro-thinking that causes me to hang out at an RF forum: whereas Canon likes to change their mounts and render old equipment useless, Nikon has made it possible for users of old lenses from the dawn of the Nikon system to use them on the most current bodies. That was the deciding factor for me, because I wanted to use the same lenses on old film bodies and my DSLR, not being limited by the manufacturer's FU attitude (speaking about Canon) towards their customers' long-term interests. Nikon permits me do do that, and I have about a 50/50 split of modern and ancient lenses, all of which, except for two new lenses, I use equally easily on my FM, FA, FGs, and D300.

In my case, I simply waited until Nikon made a DSLR I wanted, and bought it, ignoring Canon completely, even though they were the first to come up with something I could have used.

Olympus--"the Saab of the camera world," as someone put it. Any company that could come up with the OM cameras has my vote. The E-3 is a damn fine camera, and the lenses are killer.

Guess this means (according to one website) that I like North Korean beer and have no friends. But I just had to be different....

Canon 5Dll........and M 4/3s as well. They keep getting better. The new G3 is quite wonderful with the new Lumix 25 1.4 Summilux.

Fuji fanboy here. I shoot with an S3 with 50 and 105 AIS. X100 for wide angle. I picked up the S3 for $200. As many know it's low ISO performance is wonderful, but I shot at 1600 most of the time. I am extremely pleased with the results. My only complaint is that it doesn't meter with my manual Nikon lenses. I may get a S5 for that reason.

my first (and currently only) DSLR was a Canon Digital Rebel XT / 350D. for a while i used it along side my Olympus E-P2 but eventually it replaced it entirely.

i'm currently considering getting a DSLR again, but this time full frame. i have no strong ties with Canon and am trying to be open minded and consider Nikon as a possibility, but for some reason i keep leaning towards Canon. maybe aesthetically & price wise Canons just appeal to me more..... *shrugs*

600 brings the Nikon d3100 in your price range as well, fine camera that is.

At the end of the day what matters is that you get something that feels right to use for you. And that's personal. Canons and Nikons in the budget class have a distinctly different feel and controls. For me Nikon works and canon does not, for other people it's the other way around.

Even though I use Olympus, Konica-Minolta and Nikon too I find it difficult to resist the obvious charms of the Canon 5D and lenses.

Fuji digital sensor running on the Nikon D200 body. Testament to the Nikon D200 shutter as the camer has over 287,000 shutter actuations and has required no service. All the excellent color characteristics and flesh tones of the Fuji sensor and still running strong. Best portrait digital I have ever used.

I'm also shooting with an S3, my first DSLR. I bought it this year for $200. It's color rendition and dynamic range were the deciding factors to go with a Fuji, and I'm now a Fuji fanboy having just bought an X100.

Good to see some Fuji S3/S5 users here. And not much bigger than a Leica M either...

I've used Nikon and Canon SLRs in the past and I just find that Nikon ergonomics suit my hand better. I currently have an F5 with 24mm/f2.8, 35mm/f2, 50mm/f1.4 and 85mm/f1.8 + an 80-200mm/f2.8 "one touch" which is beautifully sharp.

The F5's on loan to a mate of mine who "went digital" and then regretted it. For now, I'm having to "make do" with a Leica M6TTL and M4-P.....!!! ;-))
