What Color print 400 film do you use?

Why not put Kodak 400 UC into the line up?

It is by far the best (from my experience); the NC is too dull, the VC too poppy. 400UC is just super all around. Also very cheap at all Walmarts at three 36 exp rolls for 12$ ...

Actually there are at least two Agfa negative films at 400: Optima and HDC. I did prefer HDC of these.

So, please poster, do expand the list of films we can vote on, or accept that "other" wins the day.

Quite liked NPH (and presumably therefore, pro400), but I too am intrigued by Portra, and I've heard good things about it, particularly the 160s. My first roll of the older 400VC at the lab now, going to pick up tomorrow. Of course now they have changed it I'll have to try again... d'oh!

I still have some Konica 400 (and 800), Agfa Vista 400 in the fridge. I like them better than Fuji Xtra 400. But anything is better than Kodak Max. ::blech::

Kodak UC 400 and HD200 and HD400 are nice, though.

Another vote for the missing Kodak 400UC. It's my choice based on availability and the fact that it is a fine film.

I can't say that I'm a fan of the Kodak 400UC - I find it too yellowish and really not too kind on Asian skin tones. It does have great reds though.

I still haven't found a 400 film that I really like, but something I do find very good is Fuji NPZ800 (or 800Z) exposed at 500 - great colours and fine grain.

I like both Kodak 400UC and Fuji NPH400, excellent films, and pretty much my standard film speed, as I also use Ilford XP2 400... all with meter set to 250.

I haven't used print film since Kodak stopped Royal Gold. I absolutely HATE the Max lineup. I'll have to see what wins here and give it a try...

I've found a huge part of what print film looks best is the settings of the lab when they make the print. A place that has it set for Superia makes lame prints with kodak sometimes, and vice versa.. They are supposed to adjust for the film, but I think that gets missed sometimes.
Not popular with forums, the noritsu machinine at my Costco does best with Kodak HD.

I just tried this 800Z film in 120, and wow, what a beautiful film. Also converts well to b&w, if you're into that sort of faux thing. I will try shooting it at 500, seems like a neat idea 🙂

jano, 800Z (NPZ800) at 500 is my favorite for my mostly-indoor environmental portraits with medium-format RFs... You'll see a bunch of it in my RFF gallery. I will choose NPS 160 at 100 if I am dedicating a body to slower film for outdoor use. For 6x7 SLR and 35mm I stick closer to NPH 400 at 250. I've shot a few rolls of NPZ in 35mm too and I was amazed at the quality with such a fast film. My local pro lab uses Agfa machinery and the lab manager says it does better with Fuji than with Kodak. I still like 400UC but it's more expensive.

I wish 400UC was on here as well, as my vote had to go for 'other'. I don't shoot nearly as much color as I used to do. But when I need color, it's usually 400UC I choose.

If I need the speed, I use Fuji Superia - Supermarket is how I think of it as 4 packs are cheap at my local grocery story. But really, for color work I far prefer Fuji Reala to anything else I've tried.
