what did santa bring you?

Santa let me down.
I'm firing him and going on a shopping spree.

Now if I could only find a 50 Summilux
that would fit my checkbook.

Maybe a 35 Nokton would do.

A 21 Super Angulon would sure be nice :)

Dang, I think my wife hid the checkbook.

For me the Rosalind Krauss book "Under Blue Cup" which seems very interesting, and a very nice colorful umbrella (good for taking photo when it rains :)). And my wife got a new i.pad....hope I can use it sometimes...

PS: now, that mirrorless camera....

My Santa hand puppet got me a mint Cambo SC2 & compendium shade & 4 lens boards. Now he's looking for a nice 135mm....

It's quite funny, I'm 31 now and this Christmas I got a tiny rc helicopter from my parents for the fun of it. After removing a child safe thing to help assist in steering (it's for 10 year olds) it turned out to be an absolutely amazing gift. ;) I'm flying like the wind here!

I'm 67 and I bought a little helicopter for myself last year. They are great for hand eye coordination. Great fun, but the cat took serious offense and I ended up giving the thing to a young neighbor.

That fat cookie thief from coca-cola came to europe and ruined shuter in my GR1s. A minute after midnight to be exact. Damm...

santa?

the past month has been a prelude to spending christmas on my own...lots of selfish spending...

got a new ball head, a nice manfrotto...a new think tank bag, the citywalker 10, a handsome new watch, a black seiko (for stealth ;)), some accessories for the fujis...

Chocolate, beer, and an X100 Black.

Best of all?

The time spent last night with my girls digitizing the eldest's first two years of video, finally!

I'm pretty well equipped now, so the only thing photographic this year was an Ultrapod II tripod. I think I'll welcome the light weight, and the mounting strap seems like a great concept.

Best to all for a creative 2013.

John

Thanks all. Yes, I usually have packages delivered to my office. They were closed when they would have been received so I had them delivered at home. Alas, no security camera to catch anyone. Just plain old simple theft. Like I said though, we'll sort it out - there are plenty of others out there with much more on their plates to deal with.

"Pring's Photographer's Miscellany -- Stories, Techniques, Tips and Trivia", ILEX, 2011.

The preface quotes the great Philippe Halsman: "I drifted into photography like one drifts into prostitution. First I did it to please myself, then I did it to please my friends, and eventually I did it for the money." ;-)

Other quotations and snippets:

Pg 6, Edward Weston: "Anything more than 500 yards from the car just isn't photogenic."

Pg 10, "bokeh": "A Japanese word for senility or dizziness, and by extension haze or blur, but in photographic terms it refers to the different qualities of out-of-focus effect seen in the background of pictures of shallow plane-of-focus."

Pg 92, Abraham Lincoln: "There are no bad pictures; that's just how your face looks sometimes."

The BEST gift ever...our two kids home for the Holidays....sounds corny but it's so true...
It's not that they couldn't be home but more that they want to be home...
Our son just graduated from OCS (Marines, Quantico, VA) and our daughter is a Junior in College (CSU Ft. Collins, CO)...pretty soon it'll be just me and momma so for now I enjoy these times together...
The only other gift I would like is some time with the kids to get a nice portrait of the two of them for their mother...
Merry Christmas...Happy Holidays to all...

I got nothing as those Brooklyn types won't send a package to my hotel.

They would send it to my house where it would sit around for a long time before I could get to it...

The boss gave all of us a bonus for Christmas/New Year.
Spent half of it on a Graflex Combat Graphic 45, and there's Sonnar 50 f/1.5 in the mail.

Best gift was picking up my parents and my sister from the airport on Christmas Eve, after they spent a month in Kenya.

I got a Pocket Chair that is built like a Leica. :D Comes with it's own carry bag but will fit in a pocket. So cool. Now when I'm out photographing or railfanning the trains I always got a place to sit down.:)

I'm so happy...Santa knows me very well.

He left me two Daido Moriyama books..."Labyrinth" and "The World Through My Eyes."

Food for the soul, creative fuel...

Merry Christmas everyone!
