What do you think is the best OM body and why?

Keith, my OM-3 for your D700, I'll pay shipping :D

Get back to me in a few years ... when the OM-3 is worth more and my D700 much less! :D

I'll be using an M12 by then and will no longer be comfortable with the measly ISO performance of the Nikon.

Hi,

The advantage of the OM2n is that it's close to the OM1 in feel etc but takes two SR44's, which are fairly easy to find. And it gives you similar manual use (match needle) plus auto.

The other road to take is an OM1 and an OM1 (MD) with black and chrome varied. I'd not go too far away from the one you have because of the confusion a similar but different camera can cause. Usually the confusion happens when you least want it; it's a bit like driving on the right after years of driving on the left at home.

Regards, David

Unless it was run over by a truck, filled with sand or completely submerged, it probably could have been resurrected. I vote for either 1N or 2N. Very reliable and I still have lots of repair parts for them. John

John, that is very reassuring that you still have parts for my black 1n and 2n :)

I've got the OM-1n, 2sp, 3 and 4, as well as a few of the double digits, and it always seems to be the 4 that I turn to. It just gives me everything I want and feels right. I only wish it had a mechanical shutter like the 1 and 3.

Oddly enough I also have a strange attraction to the OM-40 , love the ESP :D.

The bottom line, Keith, is go with your instinct. Whatever you get you can always sell it on if it's not right, and you'll probably make your money back.

I like my OM2n. Very accurate, feels great, love the controls. An OM4/Ti, which ever one has a spot meter might be more useful though.

Also the 1000 shutter speed top sucks... ND filters durr. I like when cameras go to 6000.

When I was younger I always fancied the OM system but being happy with my Canons I was not willing to make the switch, nor could I afford to change. After someone stole my cameras as well as other stuff I bought 3 OM cameras and a few lenses to replace. The OM10 was so so but the OM40 and OM1 were really nice cameras, the glass superb. I can't remember what I had exactly though most likely a 35mm 50mm 100mm and a 200mm, I know I had both the 1.8 and 1.4 50's. I sold them to go to uni and used a cheep RF for a few years. I think the beauty of all of them was the OM1, I would have been happy to use one with a 50 1.4. Were Olympus the last major mass market maker to stick with manual focus as their main system cameras?

Hi Keith... Cast my vote for the OM2n paired with your OM1.

That's the combo I ended up with - not once, but twice.
Found the OM4ti just too fiddly for me... I realized that I want
results, not processes. Did add the 2 series screens to both my
current bodies (Actually, one screen is a Beatty).

Just my $0.02.

I'm with Rick. OM-1/2N. Brighter viewfinder than OM-2s, 3, 3Ti, 4, 4T, 4Ti. Still serviceable (which is important to me). John

Why does the N generally seem to be recommended over the other models? There doesn't seem to be a lot of difference to me ... and how does one actually differentiate between the two?

I currently have an OM-1 (serviced by you) and two OM-2s ... the OM-4 just bought from Frank and now on it's way to me from Canada will make my OM experience fairly complete!

And another question ... the screen that came in my black OM-2 is my favourite ... it has a largish microprism circle in the middle with no split image and seems to be a little brighter than the others ... I transferred it to the OM-1 and like it so much I wouldn't mind a couple more for the other cameras. I really dont like that split imaging sytem of the standard screen.

Definitely the OM-1. My first best quality film camera. Lost it years ago.....you've reminded me I need to replace it!

Although, I do get great results and satisfaction from using my Nikon FE and FE2......

The general consensus of opinion seems to be the OM-1 ... it definitely is the M3 of the SLR world! :D

maybe.

personally I would give up all of my slr gear, including my 50/3.5 and 40/2 zuikos and 58/1.2 rokkor, to get a DR or rigid summicron 50 or a 21 super angulon.

I the OM-1 is a nice camera, and my favorite OM, but compared to my M2 Im not regretting my decision to put my 40/2 up for sale.

I guess that if it had to be an SLR, might as well be an OM-1. What other SLR is as good? Maybe a Nikon F, but that's a LOUD camera.
