Swann has an interesting series of portraits in his gallery in which he asked each subject what profession they would like to have if they could choose any one.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
If I could do it all again, I would be a meteorologist. Remy's thread earlier today "Green?" was right in my wheel house. I love the outdoors and the environment. I think I am very observant and analytical. I would be a good weather guy.

Well, when I grow up, I'd like to be a fireman.
...or an astronaut.
... or a policeman....

Seriously, no regrets here - I like what I do. I just wish subtitling of movies was paid more here in Croatia - then I'd perhaps do that, too
Beats translating boring legal stuff and contracts....

Retired and wealthy, so I can persue those things that I want but don't have time or money for.
Seriously, I want to be a great dad for my little girl and a loving husband for my wife. I have a good job that pays pretty well, I have all the cameras I could want, and I'm surrounded by nice people here on RFF. All the rest is not important to me right now.

Oh, now I remember !
A classic camera hunter. Safer than a crocodile one, at most you'll cut your finger with the film cutter on the Exaktas from time to time...

I'd like to be a professional football player. That's proper football, not gridiron football.

I'd trade places with John Shaw or George Lepp in a minute!
It wouldn't seem like work, until you're taking pics a client desired instead of following your own muse.

I'd like to be paid to race cars.
Q. How do you make a small fortune in motor-racing?
A. Start with a large one.
I'd like to be a better photographer, but not for a career.
Apart from that, I like what I'm doing.
Cheers,
Steve

hmmmmm....Parks and Wildlife Ranger, working on saving endangered species.
And always having a camera with me to record what I was doing.
The idea of being a Pro photographer just doesn't appeal, I suspect doing it for work would lose a lot of the fun factor. And I am definately over working in the IT industry (current job) although I have to admit it does pay well enough to allow me to indulge myself in my hobbies....

As kid I wanted to be either an air force pilot or a scientist. Then went to university and studied to become a meteorologist, just like rover. But I was more interested in the "how & why mother does that". I even got a offered a job as a TV weatherman!

My hero Stu. I have learned on my own through reading and took some adult education classes at the local community college. I just find mother nature so interesting. Hindsight is 20/20. I wish my vision was this clear when I was a student.
"Cartographer" would be cool! I like maps. Interesting to see the mentions of meteorology too! I was a weather observer in the Air Force, and I enjoyed that enough to consider further study. But it seemed necessary to have a PhD to get ahead in that field. So I became a mechanical engineer instead, and a rental property manager, and a police officer, and a computer consultant, and a community help-line phone-counselor, and a magazine writer, and an online forum manager... Still wondering what the next one will be! I've heard it said that most US citizens these days will have more than one main career in their working life.
