What does "Micl" mean - in the name of this forum?

"Micl" is the West-coast (US) English spelling of the more common "Misc" abbreviation used elsewhere in the US and rest of the world.

Hmmm, that's news to me. You sure about that? Have lived on the west coast for over thirty years and have never heard that before. And have myself wondered why it was "Micl" rather than "Misc" on this forum.

Come on guys ... it's a spelling "shortcoming". I understood it, though. Maybe it's because I learned English as my third language, and I am trying to learn it well.

Raid, I am impressed by anyone who knows three languages. I can hack around in Spanish and French, but am not fluent in anything but American English.

Been out here all my life and have never used "Micl" nor have I seen it before.
Heck...I had to scroll back up to make sure I spelled it right...

RFF is the only place I have seen this term, though I don't get out much.
"Misc" is universally recognized as the standard abbreviation.
"Micl" uses the same number of letters, and is not.
Since there's no savings, it's not an abbreviation but mere jargon...

Yeah, but if you're international, as many people are on this forum, and not a native English speaker, will you get to miscellaneous more easily with misk or with missile?

Mark: There was a thread here about languages, and I was quite impressed that quite a few RF members knew far more languages than I do. In my case, I grew up in three countries, so I speak the languages like the people in those countries. I did not have to learn it as foreign languages.

I was thinking the same thing, Chris. It is "misc" and not a random sample of four letters from the full word.

Aww, come on now! Are we going to spearhead new abbreviations here, or what? If so, RFF will henceforth be known as RAFF. Erc, erc...

"It's a damn poor mind that can only think of one way of spelling a word (abbreviation)."
