What F-mount Lens is Closest to Nokton 50mm 1.5?

There is the Nokton 58mm f/1.4 SL-II in Nikon AIS mount, Dave.

Well, that would make sense! If you want Nokton rendering, why not go with a Nokton. It's not quite the same focal length, but maybe 58mm is OK?

What CK said. The Nikkor 50/1.8 is a spectacular lens. Mine is the older, shorter min. focus version, in all metal.

Basically renders like a Summicron v4:

Like Jamie wrote, the older 50/2 Nikkor is very good as well. More like an early rigid Summicron to my taste (mine is an AI converted Nikkor-H):

Neither lens was very expensive.

I have given up on one that is close to a 50 Summilux. My 1.8 lenses do well (sorta) but the bokeh is a bit harsh.

Dave - Have you looked at the Sigma 50mm/1.4 ART? I think it actually compares well against the 50 Summilux. IMO, it is the best of the current line of Sigma ART lenses. It is well worth a look. Of course, the OTUS will probably blow it away, but I assume you're not looking to spend that kind of cheddar.

Any vignetting is probably post-exposure....
I also have the version with the metal ring around the barrel.

Keith, I'd be surprised. The Sigma is a very, very good 50...I doubt anything can blow it away. If, in fact, the Otus is "better" I'd guess it to be an incremental, close to indiscernible, advantage.

But, that is a guess. I don't know 'cause I don't own both and it's damn unlikely I ever will. 🙂

I'll have to compare the Nokton 50/1.5 ASPH vs the Nikkor 50mm f/1.2 AI-S. I have both, and can compare them on the same Leica M-P sensor. 🙂
The Nikkor similarly has a very lovely rendering signature.

My willing model allowed me to make 8 exposures from wide open to f/16 with both the Nokton 50/1.5 and Nikkor 50/1.2 ...

Be sure to size the window so the images show at 1:1 ... They're about 20" wide at 72dpi.

Wide open, they have a somewhat different look. They become more similar as you get down into the f/5.6-f/8 range.

Notice how much vignetting the Nikkor does on the Rayqual Nikon F to Leica M adapter... That lens' rear element is enormous and needs a wider flange than Leica M has. It gives you an idea of the challenge of designing the Noctilux. 🙂

They're definitely more similar at f/2 and smaller openings. Wide open they diverge some .. Of course, the Nikkor is f/1.2 and the Nokton f/1.5 so some difference between is a certainty. The Nokton is slightly smoother at f4-5.6, reminds me a lot of an older series Summilux 50. Regardless, both of these render nicely ... and they are both fussy as heck to get the focus plane JUST RIGHT wide open. The joy and the pain of ultra-fast lenses.

I usually set the aperture to two stops down from wide open for average shooting with relatively shallow DoF, and f/8 for deep DoF. Those are sweet spots on most lenses.
