What happened to RFF ?? Maybe its me ?

ok folks, i was just talking to jorge and we are looking at some changes to incorporate some of the ideas here.

maybe editing out some sections, combining some and adding some new ones. rich, you must have been reading my mind as i just asked jorge about the same thing - adding a section for hu and freebies and trades etc.
and the anfsd will be moving to the home page on a trial basis. jorge still has doubts but is open to giving it a try.

nothing is in stone yet but we're working on it.

If you're really really lucky, someone will sell a clean M3 for less than $10 there.

P.C. Headland just shared a story on something similar at another forum. It was a $20 Leica and it is sold. Sorry.

I am down a couple hundred too. In fact, I just lost 40 more in the last few minutes. Is someone bitter and deleting their footprints or is this just a way to get us back to "the old days." 😉

Agreed, constructive criticism is much more useful than criticism alone. I'll run my two gallery ideas up the flagpole again as constructive criticism.

1. Find a way to be notified when someone comments on one of your photos. This is huge for me. I'm never going to spend time going through all of my photos in my gallery looking to see if anyone has commented on them. Being notified is gratifying and because you know about the comment it gives you the opportunity to reply should the comment include a question.

2. Find a way to track new photo postings from other members whose work you like. I don't think this requires much explanation.

If I could only get one of these it would be #1 by a landslide. When you see that someone has commented on your work you are much more likely to view theirs and possibly leave a comment for them. Good for all.

Knowing a “club’s membership” helps keep a club going. There is a section of RFF that is photo oriented for want of a better term. These people, myself included, have a hard time tracking what our ‘favourite people’ are doing with their cameras. Additionally we have a hard time figuring out what people have said recently about anything we upload.

I’m with Sbug, RFF needs to provide the things he suggests, and to make it work you need his numbers 1 & 2. If #1 can be achieved then it should be easy to add #2.

Finally I hear the constant refrain of need for a way to give away or unload cheap stuff that is say less than 25$. For instance beater cameras that work, film, filters, accessories. One time Joe single handedly kept members of RFF in little spare items he had floating around and no longer used. I know , I was a recipient of his largesse, a yard sale Ricoh RF, because I had three cameras stolen.

These three things are not mutually exclusive to running this site and turning a profit in other areas.

PS .. DMR is a great photographer, go thru her early stuff you’ll see. I could name others whose work I like but they don’t need the heat.. (joke/humour)

I was at 699 Joe, and was waiting like a kid on Christmas eve for the post number to go to 700, so now it should be around 703.

there was an episode like this on the TV series " the Prisoner " back in the late 1960s.

Oh, and regarding the topic, I think what happens is the same that you get when you subscribe to a photo magazine. No matter how good the mag, after about two years or so, most articles seem to get recycled.

The good thing about RFF is that we as members have so much influence on what the topics are. By making useful contributions, each of us can take part in keeping RFF from going stale..

Nice to see this morning some extra real estate on the front page for emphasising the random photos a little more and showing (for my screen) the four most active topics 'above the fold'.

The news banner has gone. No real loss there.

Now, if we could de-emphasise the advertising...

Thank you Jorge.

Not quite sure how it can be any more subtle than it already is.

My suggestions for de-emphasising advertising:

All ads from the five advertisers same size in the left column, no 50/50 bits and pieces.

No 'RFF Sponsor Promo' banner above the random photos.

No minibanner at top right of the screen, use that space for 'Membership' instead.
