It feels like this site has lost some of its earlier appeal...topics seem bland and tired...some of my favorite posters have left.....is it just summer dog days ? something else ? thoughts ?

thanks

So post something of interest to you maybe and see where it leads.

Most of the familiar crowd is still around although I have not seen Bill Mattocks around lately. FrankS is still hanging in there and BJ has made showings as of late. Even your favorite pub crowd changes up a little every once in a while.

I don't know how it "was" before, but I like RFF the way it's now. Great place to hang out.

Feel the same as you Dan, Jenni, but as you know, when things grow they change. As new members arrive, there is bound to be repeats of topics that have been discussed endlessly.

I finally got off my butt and posted a handful of RF-generated photos in my gallery here. I'd love to hear some comments and suggestions. This is a discussion forum, not an entertainment medium.

There are only so many things that can be done to a camera and when it is narrowed to a rangefinder there are even less potential topics for camera discussion.

There's bound to be repeat or low response on some topics from members of one or two years than members new to the site. The site is a good one for people interested in RF cameras. Probably the best site there is for this topic.

What keeps the interest levels going for me is photography, however this site is lower on interest in actual photography and higher on selling cameras, or getting specific hard advice. Some favourite topics are
• What’s the best camera for the least money
• Which Leica lens for a special purpose
• How do I fix my rangefinder
• Who has the best repair shop for my brand of camera
• Survey on what people like, age, most beautiful camera, etc
• General noodling and chat about things ie the World Cup
• How can I take better pictures, mine don’t seem to make me happy
• What lens has the best bokeh

You get the idea. There are also threads for photos in the forum like W/NW which seem to replace the actual galleries. So all considered there is lots for people to learn and participate in, even some gallery action. Joe once upon a time used to have a monthly ‘theme’ and people would shoot and upload their photos to the theme. Now he’s looking at ‘improvement of photography’. Just check his recent thread. He may clarify or even correct my assessment of this thread but the point is there is lots here, just start digging.

Alternately like kgb32 said.. you could post a new thread and get something going.

oh dear lord, please, no more navel gazing.
at least for awhile.

everyone, go out a take some photos and then come back and we'll talk about that...

OT .. hey Joe is that a CL in your avatar?? Are you going back to your roots.. again? LoL.. and btw what happened to "moderator" ? Prefect .. those were the guys in the hall that everyone disliked... don't go over to the dark side Joe. Please? (joke/humour)

I think it has something to do with summer, not as a dis to our "below-the-belt" southern subscribers. I don't want to be a hemispherist.

Just wait until the M8 comes out.

Jan: How much photography can one talk about in a text driven forum? Lovers of photgraphy would be more inclined to spend time in a gallery based site.

I do like the monthly theme idea though.. too bad it's no longer around.

that's very true, it's tough to 'talk' photography.
i don't post as many pics here cause i wasn't get much feedback about them. why post then?

and an fyi, there is still a monthly theme here. the baton was passed to mango who coordinates it. there is a sticky every month with a topic and a different member picks a topic monthly.

I dunno, might be fun if I get to choose whose navel I'll be gazing at...

Sorry, I'll get serious again. Eventually.

OK, New Poll: Innie or Outie? And which camera bag works best with it?

Really I'm done.

For now.

Thanks.

Finally someone said something I wanted to say for a while. But just looking at how the forum is recently, I did not even bother.

any forum on any topic is merely a representation of the membership.
if excitiment is what you want then create some.
if photos are what you want, create them.

if it appears boring and lifeless to you then add some excitement.

if i had the power, the will and the ability to make it all things for all people then i just might but that, sadly, is not the case.

when people in my 'real' life tell me that they are bored i quickly them that that is their problem and they need to do something about it if they want change.
i long ago stopped feeling the need to entertain others.
