What have you just BOUGHT?

Just came in the mail from Japan! It's the lens that Ken Rockwell loves to hate: the Konica Hexanon 50mm F2.

So far I'm quite impressed with the Hexanon 50/2. Beautiful bokeh with its 10-bladed aperture (compared to 8 blades with the Summicron). Contrast and colour rendition are very neutral. As sharp as any non-ASPH lens I've ever used. Build quality is excellent IMHO, but tolerances are not as tight on the aperture ring compared to the Cron. Focus throw is silky-smooth with the right amount of heft. Price-wise, I'd say the Hexanon is an excellent choice for someone looking for a swish prime at a reasonable price.

A Nicca 3s with a 50mm f2.0 Nikkor for $227. I bought it for the lens but find I like the little Nicca. The finder is clean and works well with my eyes, the slow speeds are not working but the higher ones are. I think I may have to get it serviced. The Nikkor is lovely. I already had one but this one is nicer. One of my favorite lenses. Joe

I recently added a minty M4-P body and very nice 21mm Super Angulon. I've been putting together the core lenses of the setup I used in the 60's. The body was to supplement my MP and M2.

Wow, some nice treasures ^^ recently!

Leica 50mm f/2 APO Summicron ASPH just ordered today from PopFlash, an RFF sponsor. They offered a mint used/demo for an additional 12% off on top of the current Leica 12% currency-exchange reduction.

Leica's reduction was initially just for May but got extended through August. Given the continued downward pressures on the Euro and the strength of the US dollar, I wouldn't be too surprised if the discount gets extended again, maybe even a steeper discount.

I knew about 10 months ago that I'd eventually cave on this lens, and sat out the long waiting lists and the "flare" complaints. The PopFlash deal on top of Leica's discount just tripped my trigger... 😎

Have broken my self-imposed abstinence rather spectacularly:
  • Book: Complete Nikon System, by Peter Braczko
  • Canon EF 28mm F1.8 USM lens
  • Canon EF 100mm F2.8 Macro USM lens
  • Canon EE-S focus screen, plus some other mystery bits..
  • Contax/ Yashica to EOS lens adapter

Doug,

Congrats on the 50 APO.

Tony and Alex are great at PopFlash. Supporting our sponsors is also very cool.

Picked up this beauty over the weekend. Mint condition, but the meter is acting a little oddly. Fortunately, I can easily swap it out with another I've got.

Anybody recommend someone to service a Photomic T prism?

You might try Quality Light Metric in Hollywood CA. They are the only game in town as far as I know on calibration and repair of old meters. They replaced parts and calibrated a 40 year old Leica MR meter for me a couple of weeks ago and calibrated my Ranger 9. I've sent them 3 meter so far and had all restored and updated to modern batteries. Prices are reasonable too and turnaround is about 2 days.

I really tried to restrain myself, but self-control has never been one of my strong suits. Plus, there was that wonderful Leica discount ending this month!

I had read many good things about the latest version of the Summarit-M 75, and I love the look of a near-tele lens. The Cron 75 was way over my budget, but the Summarit by comparison was, shall we say, a deal? 🙂

The lens is exquisitely made -- some armchair critics have complained about the 'rubberized focus ring', but I don't see why that's a problem. Mounted on the Leica M 240, the lens is perfectly balanced and has that precision Leica 'feel'.

Just do me a favor: don't tell my wife I bought another lens. 😉

bobby_novatron we seem to be on similar tracks with new discounted Leica lenses. And my wife is off on her own adventure a couple states away visiting and shopping, so... 😉

Anyway, your new Summarit looks great, best wishes for great photos!
