What have you just BOUGHT?

Finally found the 40 f4 Noritar for my Warner 66.
It was advertised as have clean glass and smooth focus.
It arrived with haze behind the front element and seized focus.... grrr

Sent back, the search continues, got to love eBay....

A beautiful, but slightly funky smelling black paint Konica Autoreflex T3. Needs a CLA and the meter fixed but this one may have to go to Greg Weber. This is my third T3 and the one in the worst condition but I see a gem in the rough.

Bronica ETRS with 3 lenses. Never could warm up to the Mamiya 645 (although love C330) due to the fixed film back.

Should be here tomorrow

A Canon G11 as a beater camera, plenty of resolution for its use and it was damned cheep. Had a G9 years ago and did somewhat regret selling it, it was a nice size for use but small and fitted the bill for a beater camera just wished for a bit more wide angle.

Kenro 103 trodpipe. The search for a useable, dedicated, ‘pod for the Leicas. The P & T head on my Manfrotto tilts anticlockwise, which is what you want if you’re right-eyed and using an SLR, but wrong for a Leica with the tripod screw on the right and viewfinder on the left, where it needs to tilt clockwise to bring the finder up and clear of the tripod. Also, the Manfrotto QR plate fouls the tripod mount on the Hektor.

very nice Helen, l am sure you will get great results from it:)

Yes Michael, i think i will have a blast

Went crazy last night
and bought a used GR II BUT once in tge store got tge SonyRX100 instead... will have a shoitout between rx100 and GRIII

Funny the choices one makes
with a film camera I will put up with size and weight
With digi I prefer compactness and no longer care about a VF

Enjoy your MD !
a 21mm would be a purrfect companion

The GW-4 gives you 21mm on the GRIII. Then get a GV-1 and you have an OVF with 21 and 28mm framelines. The whole package is still pretty small for what it is.

John Garrett, The Art of Black & White Photography, £2 from charity shop. Alessandro Pasi, Leica, Witness to a Century, £2 from church book sale. Riddled with factual errors, garbled technical misunderstandings and mistranslations from the original Italian (does no-one employ proof readers?) but worth the money in camera porn.

Shutter Adjusting for Focal Plane Shutters

Shutter Adjusting for Focal Plane Shutters

I still prefer using a cathode ray tube for 1/1000, 1/500 and 1/250. With some practice the width and parallel character of the images seen can be used to adjust most focal plane shutters. Of course comparing the width to a know accurate Nikon or Olympus 2n is necessary and I keep the instructions on which curtain to adjust handy. On the Barnak types I adjust the B first so that it opens and closes with authority then the base speed whatever it is...1/20, 1/25/ 1/35, so that I am certains open and closes firmly. Then, I move to the highest speed, typically 1/500. This ensures the springs are not tightened too far and of course confidence in repetitive results. Also I confirm the width for the high speeds are consistent with the know to be accurate cameras. If one does not invest in the better equipment made for the specific purpose results can be very close. I even have a technique for copal shutters for the high speeds using the cathode ray tube method.
