What have you just BOUGHT?

The M's are the gates of the 9th Circle of Hell for sure. I have the M8.2, M9 and M240 and all are good for their individual reasons. And i have seen them all damned in print. That's fine. I get good pics with all of them, that is to say the IQ and color are good. An additional problem with these old Leicas, other than failure and batteries, is that one is lured down the path of retro lenses. They seem to go so well on the old M bodies. I have old and new lenses and a new "old" lens. The colors are nice. And I have the HB X2D with the XCD 55V which is a great combo, HB color science is wonderful, 16 bit dynamic range, even the HB 8 bit JPG is great. And the color is quite comfortable but it does not seem to have the romance of something out of that M9 with a good lens like the SBS 5cm. Even the newer lenses like CV's look good on the M9.

And that is my dilemma as I do not like how Wetzlar's Trolls support older bodies. I am also fond of the bodies. I've stocked up on the M8/M9 batteries and have two for the M240 but worry that one or all of the bodies will fail and Jadon at Red Dot will not be able to use his mojo to fix them. I have other cameras but we all have the same problem, "Do I have enough cameras?"

To be truthful if I thought the camera would make me a better picture taker I'd buy a bunch. And as The Good Book admonishes us, we cannot buy our way into Heaven, neither can we buy our way into skill. Drat. ;o)

Latcho Drom in print. I have always been fascinated by the Roma, or gypsies, and today I opened up Koudelka's Gypsies. Gatllif's beautiful and moving film, Latcho Drom, follows the migrations from India to Spain and the hostility shown to these people who also were sacrificed by the Nazis in the death camps in WW II.

I know only one person who had direct personal contact with Roma, and he did in Baja California, Mexico. His experience was that they were fine and welcoming people.

Anyway, the book is a collection of haunting mono images of these folk. It caters to my interest to the gritty side of life, that of the shat upon and spat upon. They, too, have their story.

What I love about it is it doesn't matter even what budget you have as there's something for everyone....It's a buzz that's hard to exstinguish.

When I buy broken stuff from EB I know it's a chance, sometimes it's worse than I thought or it's sometimes better but that is part of the fun for me....My latest buy, a Nikon FT2 that mechanically works fine, the meter is supposed to do something but as you can see from the pics, not sure how they tested it, and as you can see the base screw fixings need work but it was £25 delivered with original Nikon Box.

And as you can see, in pretty nice condition even before I've cleaned it. It will need a new baseplate eventually but all part of the fun.
