Last week at a thrift shop I bought a Pentax SMC DA 50-200mm lens looking pretty new in box for $2. I don’t own a Pentax body and if in a year or so fail to buy a Pentax body I’ll give it away.

learnt a lesson with last 2 eBay private sellers - now buying, if possible, fully-serviced or CLA examples. Cost a bit more but gets rid of hassles.

This baby is being packed in Germany right now and will be coming my way next week. I had one some years ago, but sold. It comes with the 6 months warranty, so I will have plenty of time to test it if it works as it should. I wanted 6x9 format and was hesitating between Fujica GW690 and Bessa, but Bessa wins when it comes to compactness and weigh (important when traveling).

Those are fantastic cameras. It’s wild seeing the price difference between the Heliar and APO-Lanthar versions. The former are mostly around $500-$1000 from Japanese eBay sellers, but KEH has the latter for over $6,000

RB67 Pro S body with 90 and 180mm lenses, waist-level and eye-level CDS prism, extension tube, two 120 backs (one in original box and paperwork), original manual and related brochures, lens caps, prism cap, two Mamiya lens hoods. Got it all for what I think is a very good price though I hsve to take the body, lenses and backs in for CLAs and light seals (there are a lot of light seals!). The 180 lens doesn't seem to be exposing the film though it sounds like it's working (it really isn't) so hopefully it won't be a major deal to figure out what's going on. I shot a test roll with the camera and generally everything is fine -- amazingly no light leaks but I should still replace them all. As expected (after the fact) the one frame I shot with the 180 lens came out blank.

Not sure if I'm going to keep this nice kit or not -- I may use it for a little while and then move it on.

That's a PITA, I have a Vitomatic II and it's nice to use and takes great pics too. Just don't drop it on your toes...

If the vf is unusable, you can't make it worse. I suspect the two parts were held together by Canada balsam (please - if you know this, as opposed to me speculating, weigh in now!). If you can find out how to remove that, you might be able to recement them - especially if you get that donor, so you don't lose anything if it doesn't work.

My tuppence, of course, you know what you are capable of, you are well within your rights to ignore me!

Recementing is a bit beyond my skills. I took the cheat route and just bought another camera - very cheap. I'm going to cannibalise it!

From what I can tell, it’s just that eBay was never successful for the Japanese domestic market so it shut down. There are many camera shops there that use eBay for international sales. I’ve bought several lenses and camera bodies from Japanese eBay sellers, and they were shipped directly to me from Japan. Air freight from Tokyo to the Eastern US was very fast and cheap up until the beginning of this year, with lenses making it from the Tokyo metro area to the Eastern US in around 48 hours.

Running a roll through it now and see if the Tessar lens still sings.
