John, always when I see a picture of a R8 or R9 I think to myself, how utilitarianian-handsome these cameras actually are ;-)
It is a real pity that Leica R10 was stopped, I would have loved to see this line extended in 35mm (the S2 turned out to be the true R9 successor).
I just finally found a Nikon 105/1.8 Ai-S to find out how this one performs on the old D3.

Not many... I was totally obsessed with this camera in the 1990s and simply couldn't afford it and the lenses when new. Now, with a full set of lenses at my disposal and the price I was offered on this one, I could not stop my hand punching the buy button. I think all but two of my lenses are 3-cam so I'm good to go with it.
I hope I use it.. But even if not, it's nice to realize the fantasy.
