What have you just BOUGHT?

Stopped by the local "Thrifty Shopper" (a charity shop) and they didn't have any cameras but there was a copy of The Science Of Photography by H. Baines and "revised and brought completely up to date by E.S. Bomback. From 1976.
For $1, I don't really mind that it is no longer completely up to date. 🙂

A WW2-era gun camera Fairchild AN-N6, with Kodak lens:

A broken Soviet KMZ Zenit-1, made in 1955:

I've tried to disassembly and fix it, but to no avail. The main structure is broken, so the levers and rollers don't fit properly. Fortunately it was very cheap.



And the "nephew" of the Zenit-1, the KMZ Krystall, a short-lived unusually-looking Soviet SLR, made in 1962:

My brother, who knows nothing at al about cameras, bought a box of them at a yard sale on Saturday for $100.

He was excited by the old box camera and the Instamatic that was still in its original box. There was also two 1990s Minolta SLRs with consumer-grade lenses on them and an old Polaroid folder camera.

And a Minilux. Damn him.

He wants too much for it and I don't really need one, but I helped him to clean it up and to write the ad for him to put it online.

I bought a collapsible Industar 50 with case, caps and receipt thingy. I have to presume it's a receipt as I don't read whatever language it's in. Click on pics for big versions:

If the version 1 was good enough for Tom A, then this version ll 35mm 1.4 should easily accommodate my occasional wide-open needs.

11x14" ..Expired?... Meh! One of my favourite papers ever. It's the good stuff made in France by Boespflug & Guillemot. Bet it still prints fine. Will find out later today.....if it needs benzotriazole.

Well, would you believe it's in Russian? It's the lens's "Passport" showing the model, focal length, maximum aperture and register. It's dated 29 April 1968.

"ОТК" is a standard abbreviation for the inspection dept. or QC.

You can probably guess the rest...

David, thanks for the info. I did think it was probably in Russian, but other langauges also use the Cyrillic alphabet and not knowing exactly what the paper was, I had to hedge my bets.

Alfa2 on the USSRphoto forum says there shouldn't be any string in the construction. I can't see how the green string would get in there but I can guess that the white string is from a label which hasn't been removed, although I've no idea what the soft-ish brown stuff that the white string rests on in the photo is.
