What have you just BOUGHT?

27" iMac hard disc died. No back up. Found a man who, as far as I can see, has retrieved all data. He has also cut (!) the iMac open and installed a solid state drive. Now it is all so much quicker.

I now back up.

Conventional wisdom would suggest that this was the wrong course of action and that buying new would be the correct choice but those who tried to sell me a new machine confused me...and I don't like change.

ITB external SSD hard drive is your friend. I have a couple. Lesson learned going back 20 years.
 
Recently bought my first digital camera in 8 yrs -- Nikon Z9 with FTZ II adapter which works great with my older Nikon and Tamron SP DSLR lenses. Also got a Megadap ETZ21 adapter, but returned it after it performed unreliably, briefly working after installing firmware update, but then stopped working entirely. Z9 works great and is not nearly as heavy feeling as expected. It fits very comfortably in my smaller hands.
 
Finally received the Nour Triplet V 2.0/64 that I backed on Kickstarter. Gorgeous lens, psyched to have it in hand -- now if we'd just get some decent weather . . .

I was that close to buying one of these at the end of last year, but I figured that since I have the Olympus 17mm f1.8 and f1.2, I didn't need that lens, just wanted it.

Earlier this year, I bought three Urth UV filters for my Olympus f1.2 lenses, and a big 82mm UV filter for my Sigma 24-105mm f4. Not sexy, but the feeling of security they give it worth it.

About this time last year, I bought the v-log upgrade for my Panasonic G9. This gives the G9 the v-log L colour profile which is intended for heavy colour grading when shooting video. It maximizes the dynamic range and colours of the footage. Honestly, it was a revelation, I don't know why I didn't get it before. The colours of my footage are so much better, and they can take much more processing.

I've just placed an order for a Panasonic 24-105mm f4 for my S5. As much as I like the Sigma, and it has served me very well for the past couple of years, the autofocus is slow and patchy at best, and the camera regularly underexposes for reasons I can't understand. The lens should arrive by Friday.

I just started to use mine again. It came along well over ten years ago, I think I bought it in 2012? It has its limitations but it's still a super camera. The colours are unlike the later X-Trans sensor models, which I actually prefer.

I nearly bought a S1 yesterday, but ended up getting the 24-105 instead. Last year, I saw a S1 which had the v-log upgrade in the secondhand section of a large camera store. I didn't buy it, but it's been at the back of my mind ever since as a potential companion/b-cam for my S5. The shop had a big sale on secondhand gear last week, but when I went back, that S1 had gone, and the only S1 they had did not have the v-log upgrade. Buying the v-log upgrade would have made it as much as buying it without the discount, so I passed.

The 24-105 was also available secondhand, and the autofocus issues the adapted Sigma was getting too much last week. It's time to switch to native glass, at least for this zoom range. So I've snagged the 24-105 for much, much less than retail or even the average secondhand price.

That's a very nice lens! I still have a lot of my micro 4/3 and original 4/3 gear boxed up. That lens is among the group. If I didn't have so much other stuff I use regularly I would take out one of the bodies and the 15mm and the 25mm Summilux and use them.

The B&W here is outstanding, Joe. That's the way B&W is supposed to look.

So far only looked at it, on my desk. Switched it ON a couple of times, and everything seems to work.

I also have a good bit of my FourThirds and Micro-FourThirds gear still, boxed up and waiting to be used or sold. Seeing photos like this makes me wonder why I'm not using it more. 🙂

Make sure you take shots at f2, f8 anf f16 and check that the exposure is consistent between them. X100 can have a sticky aperture problem. If yours has it, it the stopped down exposure will overexpose. If it is fine you are likely good.
 
I have been having so much fun with the first one I picked up that I bought a 2nd Argus C3 with a case. I found out that this was one camera that I have had some success with minor repairs.

It arrived on Saturday and appears to be in decent shape though the focus is a bit stiff. I'll clean it up a bit and mount my Sandmar 100 lens on it.

I doubt you will have a problem with the 24-105 AF. It is quick. I did program the up/down on the D pad for front/rear bias which can be handy during video. Can't say how adapted Sigma lenses work on the S1R but I have a number of native Sigma DG DN lenses (105 2.8, 85 1.4, 50 1.4, 24 3.5, 20 f2) and they all focus very quickly with eye detect working well too.
