What have you just BOUGHT?

Remember the 2 Pentax Espio's from couple of weeks ago, after the batteries landing, neither worked properly so were returned and replaced with these today, both fully working this time. The Olympus runs off 2 x AAA Batteries so a lot easier. Had to add another pound coin though 😉

SMC Pentax (K) 28mm f/3.5 lens

$75 from an APUG member

I'm not a big 28mm fan, but at that price I couldn't pass up this highly rated lens.

EDIT 3/26: Lens arrived. Condition is perfect except diaphragm is slightly slow. Eric Hendrickson will make it like new.
Seller included like-new hardcover copy of Asahi Pentax and Pentax SLR 35mm cameras 1952-1989 by Danilo Cecchi.

I sold my SL66E last year, but it was damaged in shipping. I had not used it in a while but it was working well before the shipping. So the buyer returned it, and I sent it for repair of a stuck mirror and the film advance mechanism, probably jarred when the package was thrown by someone. Anyway, I had the repairs done locally by a shop that knows these SL66's. Had a CLA and the camera works great, smoother film advance and focusing, cleaner viewfinder. So,,,,I decided this will be my medium format film camera. I know its quirks, weight, and operation well. And it's fun. With spring almost here, I'll take it onto Kelly Drive in Philly for the cherry blossom explosion that is coming soon, boaters and regattas, and people watching along the Schuylkill river. To add to the fun, I bought this wide angle monster, the Rollei Zeiss Distagon 40mm f4 lens. Like a 23-24mm lens in 35mm lens view.

Landscapes will be great for this set up. Glad things worked out the way they did with my earlier failed sale!

I always wanted an SL66 ... lovely beast of a camera! My uncle had a complete kit, and then sold it without even telling me. Sigh. That was years ago, but it annoyed me to the degree that I bought a Hasselblad 500CM and never looked at buying an SL66 again. It's worked out probably for the better for me over the years, but I still love the SL66 design.

A pocket magnifier. The idea is that I can whip it out when I need to read the controls on a Barnack Leica, without fumbling with my specs. Oh for the days when I could read anything smaller than a newspaper headline! And, as an added bonus, bought from a proper camera shop (Bass & Bligh in Harrogate).
Wow, my brother used to have one of those but in red. We are talking about the 1980s 😯

Sheesh, I had one of those in the 1960s... They were a very standard magnifying glass back in the day! Everyone seemed to have one.

I have one, and use it frequently when shooting with my 6x9 Horseman field camera. I find it much more convenient than a bulky and expensive loupe for determining critical focus on the ground glass.

I got these two Mamiya 35 Auto Deluxe rangefinders recently from two different sources in Japan. One was advertised as fully functional and the other was for parts. Neither one was very expensive, with the parts camera $29 plus $15 shipping, and the other about twice that with shipping free. As it turned out, the parts camera was in better shape overall except for the filter ring bent and pushed in, having been dropped. Further inspection of both showed that both cameras had the same problems. The filter rings are attached to the back of the lens front block by three tiny brass screws. The one that had been dropped had distorted and bent the ring and stripped the screws out of the lens. The other had also stripped the tiny screw threads, so the filter rings were loose and floating. The rangefinders on both were also not working, with the matching image frozen. I was able to straighten and reattach the filter rings by retapping for slightly larger brass 0-90 screws. The rangefinders fix was also pretty easy as the pivoting mirror had frozen in its pivot. A little fine oil and some working the mechanism back and forth and now they are both fine, with bright clear accurate images.

Once I got into the cameras, I was impressed by the quality of the manufacturing, fit and finish. The meters, which are lens coupled via a LV system ring, are not accurate, but I expected that. The lenses are fully coated 48/1.7 with 7 elements in 5 groups, and that is really what got me interested in this model. So now I have two fully functional Auto Deluxes in pretty nice condition. No parts camera, but I would probably never need one anyway.
