Hi, I realise I should know this but what exactly is GAS, is it some sot of compulsive buying syndrome associated with rangefinders/cameras, I have a compulsive obsession with fishing reels and rods. I own about 10 rangefinders, (used to have a vast collection of cameras in the hundreds), but I also own far to many rods and reels to mention, (don't tell the wife). I must point out that I try and use all my rods and reels on a regular basis.

Gear Acquisition Syndrome. I used to have the same problem with fishing tackle, however the wife says one hobby must support another. So...sell a bamboo fly rod, buy a rangefinder or folder. Sell a rangefinder, buy another bamboo fly rod. Otherwords - robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Charles Darwin wrote GAS is a natural evolution: you start when you don't know how to photograph, so natural GAS makes you buy 2-4 cameras thinking you'll make better shots... Then you understand how to make shots, and learn that cameras really don't matter, but anyway, natural GAS makes you buy better cameras again, and you get a mix of 4-6 of them, until you learn that even if other cameras are nice, rangefinders are the real thing, so natural GAS leads you to buy some of them to try RF's, ending up with 6-8 cameras, only to discover that from the beginning you should have bought Leicas, and then natural GAS makes you pay a few Leicas so you have 8-10 cameras, and then you say what the hell, NOW I know what I like, and then after your last natural GAS you end up with 14 M2's like Tom Abrahamsson, naturally! :)

Cheers,

Juan

Ken one day I will cast a grey duster with one of my early Hardy of Alnwick fly rods on a river in the Big Sky, I'm an avid fan of Gierach and it does not surprise me that you come from Montana and have a love for bamboo fly rods..........trout bums of the world unite
