A technique that has become essential to your best photos, a previously un-known-to-you photographer who now inspires you, something that helped you make peace with your gear - what has been your one best take-away to date from this community?

There isn't one. RRF has been a wealth of information as a whole. If I have to pick one, it would be the greater understanding of the ART of photography.

Not to take others views, ideas, or recommendations on bodies and lenses whatever the make as definitive.
The only way to figure out if something works for you is to try it out for yourself. Granted that a ball park idea is directing but in the final analysis it's better to base your decisions on your own experience.

New york is bull****.

Well sure!

I can’t with any conscience argue for New York with anyone. It’s like Calcutta. But I love the city in an emotional, irrational way, like loving your mother or your father even though they’re a drunk or a thief. I’ve loved the city my whole life — to me, it’s like a great woman.
--Woody Allen

Whoever is born in New York is ill-equipped to deal with any other city: all other cities seem, at best, a mistake, and, at worst, a fraud. No other city is so spitefully incoherent.

I'm with you. I learned the hard way. Knew better though.

I also learned that people can be blinded by a brand name (red dot).

I guess creepy old Woody forgot about him hooking up with his great woman's adopted daughter..

Anyway my take away is treat RFF just like the rest of the internet. Just because you read it on RFF does not mean it's true.
😉

i've learned that no matter how many images i post or where i post them...almost no one makes a comment.
i've learned that there sure are lots of good people in this world.
i've learned that gear is a highly personal decision and that there is no perfect camera bag.
i've learned that assholes lurk here and they never seem to learn how to play well with others.
i've learned that my experience here at rff is completely different from yours and his and hers...
