What is your favorite camera setup for vacation?

I'm in a Madrid hotel right now on the last day of three weeks in northern Spain

Brought:
Fuji X100s
Fuji X E2 with 12mm Zeiss, 35 1.4 and 18-55
Sony NEX7 w/ 19, 30 and 60 Sigma lenses

Used:
All of them---however...

Battery charger for X100s died after first week. Never had that happen before but you never know ...that's why I always bring three cameras to Europe 🙂

Used the 12 very little but really had fun with it when I did...deliberately went out for one full day with nothing but that 12mm.

Sony IQ and Sigma lenses are top notch but I just have a hard time running the UI. "Wait, how do I format the card?"
Would be fine I 'spose if I used it all the time but mostly use a Fuji and sometimes forget how to speak idiomatic Sonyese.

Fuji X E2 was used the most, 18-55 mostly, as you'd expect although the 35 has been used a lot. In fact, it's getting dark now and I'll soon be out in the Puerto de Sol, about a block from here, with it. Will be shooting wide open (1.4) the whole time...combined with crazy high ISO (3200) when needed and B&W jpegs it is a liberating shooting experience.

Future bottom line for me: Take the same outfit and a new charger ... I really missed using the X100s.

In 1997, I bought a cheap and cheerful plastic Minolta 404si with 35-70 which I used in Toronto .
Lightweight , creating acceptable colour slides .

I don't usually do holidays , but may have the opportunity to visit Malaysia to wife's family .

I guess that I will take advantage of the similar lightweight plastic build of the Sony A290 or A390 with Sony 35 F1.8 , and that same silver Minolta 35-70 which crops to a perfect nom 50-100 .
it would be the Leica Digilux 3 or L1 but I don't have the preferred lenses.
The Fuli XF1 notebook will go along for the ride !

Could I resist the M8 and CV 35 f2.5 ? Not sure yet !!

I used to take all sorts of gear for every shot imaginable but these days I prefer to grab just one camera, usually my F2, and maybe 2 lenses: the 2.1cm Nikkor and the 50mm f/1.2 Ais. I'll take them with but oftentimes I won't even take a photo, instead I just enjoy being wherever I am. Not all the world is an assignment.
If there is somewhere I'm going with the intention of shooting, I'll often take my Mamiya 6 kit.

I am debating at the moment - we are off to Sri Lanka this Xmas for 2 weeks. I still am wedded to film, so digital is not an option.

When we went there last on honeymoon, I took my FM2 + 3 lenses, lovely outfit. I am drawn for sentimental reasons to taking the selfsame kit - if it was good enough for the honeymoon 21 years ago, then take the same stuff again. Actually, I am leaning to the Contax G2 with 28/45/90 and Contax T3 as backup. Or perhaps the Hexar RF and same lenses. Or maybe the Mamiya 7 II. Or perhaps just the Nikon 35ti. Or the Contax T2. As against which I could use my late father's Oly 35RC, which is still going strong.

Decisions, decisions.

I need some help: what should I take?

What's the weather like there during that time? IMHO u tend to notice what your carrying more when it is hotter and more humid then what your normally used to.

From your options, for me it would be the contax g2 setup plus t2 as backup..

When I shot film, I would have taken Voitlander Bessa II and Contax T (w/o flash) or replace the Voitlander w/ hasselblad xpan w/ 30 and 90..

Ps...forgot to mention...surprisingly, the bessa 2 is actually lighter and more compact then the more modern bessa 3.

Since I do a large percentage of my photography when travelling. I've been experimenting. The most recent trip to Lisbon involved an X Pro 1 with a 14, an XT 1 with an 18-55, and a Nikon D3X with a 70-200 F4. That covered all the non sports focal lengths I use and fitted in a surprisingly small, albeit not light, Lowe Pro backpack. And I did use it all. I took a bunch of Zeiss lenses to Iceland during the Summer along with the Fujis, but I had a car for that trip so had more flexibility in what I carted over there.

For travel, digital is so much easier. For my recent attempt at round the world travel, I packed an M9 with 35f2.8 C Biogon and 90f2.8 Tele Elmarit M and a waterproof Olympus point and shoot.

Well, I lost the point and shoot before leaving Hawaii and just added a 50f2.8 Elmar. So now, M9 with 35,50 and 90.

Really depends on the kind of holiday and on the way of travelling.

For our last short family trip to Kent and London, I took:

Leica M6
Fuji X-E2
Samyang 2.0/12
Fuji 18-55
Voigtländer 2/28
Voigtländer 2.5/75
Lomography Spinner 360°

It was no problem to carry that around.

I used the most:

Fuij X-E2 with 18-55
M6 with 2/28
Spinner 360

I shoot more when traveling than at home and I grew tired of coming home from vacation and having the additional chore of dealing with film. So no more film on vacation. Plus I'm moving that direction anyway as I shoot more color.

Last trip to Italy part cycling/part regular touristy stuff- Ricoh GRD for throwing in my pocket when going out and using on the bike. M9 with 35 and 135 for more dedicated photography. I had a specific idea for the 135 doing abstract landscapes and it worked out well for that. Otherwise I'd probably just bring a 35 or a 50 depending on where I was going to be shooting.

Worked out well. My friend had an iphone 6 and I'd almost ditch the Ricoh for that for casual snaps.

Very happy to come home and be able to go through my images quickly and not have my wife bug me about when I would develop and scan the film so she could see some photos.

Next trip might need some sort of zoom so was asking about those options in another thread and thinking about a OM-D for that purpose.

Just back from 8 days in Key West. Leica MM and 35lux FLE is all I took. it is a pairing that really matched the way I see and work so I didn't need anything else.

if it has to be a vacation photography will for sure be present but not the "first" thing. Therefore I try to keep it simple, last year for a week in Sardinia it was my Bessa R with the Heliar 50 F2 and five rolls of film, by the way I only used 3 1/2. In that occasion I decided for the one camera one lens approach, decided the lens had to be a fifty and decided for the Bessa instead of the M7 because less worth, I could leave it in a bag on tha beach when bathing without too many worries. It worked ok.

Last month I spent two week in Ischia (Island in South Italy, Naples area) and wanted to do something different: I brought two Polaroid cameras, a Land 340 with three pack of Fuji color film and a basic 600 with a few packs of films by Impossible (a few were old and expired), leaving one camera in the hotel and bringing with me the other, depending on the mood of the day!

So what? I have not a fixed solution, it depends a lot on he kind of vacation. Mainly trying to keep it simple!

For my last trip I took a RX1r and a M2 + ZM 35/1.4 Distagon. Each day I'd pick which camera to use, and shoot that the entire day. The other would stay in the bag. I really like not having to switch lenses and it keeps me from thinking too much - one lens, one camera, and enjoy the trip 🙂

For me it's two bodies and two lenses (one 35mm and on portrait lens) for either film, digital or both. I really like to have a light kit that I won't mind carrying around all day.

For film:
- Olympus XA (35mm f2.8)
- Leica CL with Voigtlander 75mm f2.5

For digital:
- Fuji X100 (35mm f2 equiv)
- Fuji X-pro1/X-T1 with Fuji 56mm f1.2

Normally, I take a fixed lens digital camera like the Canon G11 shown is the attached photo. I recently replaced the G11 with a G15.

However, on my vacation this year, I took a variety of equipment because I went to a 3-day photography workshop where I shot macro, landscape, portraits, and wildlife.

This does the trick these days.

The small slave flash is very useful. EDIT; at my age I go back to places I've been to over and over again. So nothing special needed... Over the years the CL was the most used but I've owned it for decades.
