What is your next purchase going to be?

Probably a vintage Conway Stewart fountain pen, preferably blue marbled.

I have more than enough photographic gear as it is - recently found out that more gear did not improve my photographs (I have of course known that for a long time - but I started acting on it a year ago, and it has been liberating indeed!).

Dunno. Don't need anything I can afford at the moment. What I buy next always depends on buying kit that gives me new options. A digital back for my Alpa would be good, ideally a Phase One IQ250 ( http://www.alpa.ch/en/news/2014/IQ2...arketing software&utm_term=First Review IQ250 ) but I can't afford one.

Then again, until the next cheque comes in, filling the petrol tank on the Land Rover is a bit of a challenge...

Cheers,

R.

On a gig today I decided to replace both my D700 bodies, my Nikkor 16-35/4 and 17/36 2.8 lenses with two Fujifilm XT-1 bodies, the XT-1 grip and two Fujinon 10-24/4 XF lenses. I realized the XT-1's 1/180 flash sync speed is not a severe disadvantage as I am only getting 1/200 syncs with the D700 (even though the spec is 1/250).

My needs are highly related to dynamic range and shadow-region signal-to-noise ratios. My X-Pro 1 raw is every bit as good (and probably a bit better) as the D700 raw. So the XT-1 raw will be fine. The Fujifilm XT-1 iPad/iPhone app will be very useful for work. I can sell all my other Nikkor lenses and my Cam-Ranger as well. In the end the cost to switch will not be a concern once the Nikon gear is sold. I may also get a Fujinion telephoto zoom as I need a telephoto lens about once every two months or so.

The difference in weight and size will be significant as I carry everything for gigs.

My goal is to start with one XT-1 and 10-24/4 XF lens this spring and use the remaining D700 and 16-35/4 for back up. In early summer I plan to complete the switch from Nikon to Fujifilm.

28mm prime

28mm prime

Having decided there is no mid range zoom worthy of the Nikon D800e, I've gone for primes:

Nikon 300mm f4
Sigma 150mm 2.8 macro
Nikon 85mm 1.8 G
Nikon 50mm 1.8 G and soon to be added:
Nikon 28mm 1.8 G

I now treat the D800e like medium format---landscape, portrait, tripod, stop down 3 stops.
For everything else, APS-C and smaller cameras.

(OK, I admit, I still use the 14-24 2.8)

Seriously considering a MF rangefinder - GF670, Mamiya 6, Plaubel Makina. I generally prefer 6x6 and I like portability. I am more than happy with a normal, fixed lens. Tough call but I'm in no rush.

Right after I get rid of some miscellaneous large format equipment and some antique cameras on eBay and Craigslist, I'll be in the market for a new Voigtlander 50mm f1.1 Nokton.

But not until then is what I tell myself...

_Harry.

Sigma SD1 Merrill

Sigma SD1 Merrill

Hoping the Sigma SD1 Merrill and the Sigma 18-35 lens for it. 🙂

Maybe find a "sweet" trade offer deal for the outfit?

Just pulled the trigger on a Nikon 28mm/1.8 AFSG. The current Nikon discount offer ($100) plus my 4% reward ($120) from my D800E purchase put this lens at a price point where it was too much to resist.

Ha! Me, too, Keith!

Ha! Me, too, Keith!

As I had threatened on page 3, last night I ordered the 28mm Nikon ...like you, the rebate pushed me over the edge.

Glad I didn't buy a refurbished one for, as it turns out, only $100.00 less...I had been leaning that direction. 5 year warranty rather than 90 days alone is darn near worth that.

Here's to many wonderful future images for us both.
