That sounds relatively painless, Jim! I think I'd venture the extra $100 for the CLA if only for peace of mind and getting periodic maintenance accomplished.
I was going to observe that I've been very lucky with my eBay purchases, but it's not just luck, but also being observant and careful, as well as courteous and friendly to the other party. There have been both ups and downs with the accuracy of the item's claimed condition, and the promptness of shipping and quality of packing, but I've never been burned/cheated.
I do my research before bidding, and I'm often surprised to see businesses trying to sell stuff at prices higher than the same new item at B&H for instance. I shake my head in wonder as I see bidders enter a dozen bids within minutes, all $5 or $10 apart, and if there's more than one doing this in an auction it's fun to see them battle it out and the price at the end way over KEH or B&H price. I bid once and only once, and won't go within 20% of the same or similar item at KEH etc, due to less certainty about the seller.
Hi Aaron -- Sounds like a pain... but it turned out well, didn't it, when I came along and simply bought it without dickering around... 😀 I figured it was a bargain at the asking price, and when it arrived it was indistinguishable from new. I hope you were as satisfied by the transaction as I, and here's an RFF Classifieds success story to counteract your previous experience.endustry said:...but buying/selling here on RFF can be a pain in its own way, too.
My last experience was with a guy who kept boorishly PMing me trying to get me to drop the price little by little on a 21 Elmarit ASPH. Then he asked if he could pay by check. When I wouldn't crumble, he sent me one final snotty PM saying he would pay the original price but could I AT LEAST pay for shipping? I raised the price of the item to make him go away. My ad stated that I accepted Paypal only and was firm on the price. He PMed me like ten times anyway.
