Hi everybody,
Which of the reloadable cartridges for bulk films will be good enought (or best) for daily using.
- loading
- keeping films
- scratching
and I don't like plastic catrtriges at all.
Thanks,
Gene

Similar cassettes are available e.g. LTM and M, Nikon rgfdrs, SLR F and F2, Contax, Kiev, Zorki 2 and Zorki5, but none are compatible except

Contax and Kiev (the FSU ones are cheap)
Nikon (I think)
Zorki
M cassettes can be used in (most) LTM cameras, (you can try, they will rattle)
but LTM cassettes wont allow the M baseplate to close, unless you file!

Your loader needs to actuate the open/close mechanism, Watsons and computrols do (I think).
Only problem is they can be damaged, dropping is not a good idea.

I did have cassettes from Kiev. After a couple of years they start to scratch films. It's a real issue with this cassetes. As I know i can not found a new one, I have tried. It should be something else. BUt I don't have idea what new cassetes are good enought for me.

The Kiev/Contax casettes should not scratch film, if you get the concentric type, unless you gouge the lips with burrs, which can be/need to be smoothed with fine file and metal polish, till they are mirror finish.
The outer body is two bits a top and a bottom cylinder which sleeve together and are opened (or closed) in the camera by the base plate latch, no felt apart from two doughnuts at each end in the leitz to stop leakage through the spool holes.
The others I listed are similar.
There should be a FED option as my FED 3 has baseplate latches, not seen one yet though.

Only one of the leitz types will fit your M6, or at least I think the M6 still has the baseplate latch notch.

I'm not sure I understand this. I buy metal reloadable cassettes from Freestyle. I use them two or three times and then toss them (they are cheap). I toss them before the felt lips degrade and/or schmutz accumulates and scratches the emulsion

I have used these in Zorkis, FEDS, Kievs, and my Bessa R. Why won't they work in a Leica?

Sorry I assumed you were familiar...

Leitz made special cassettes for LTM leicas, they wont work in other cameras, they dont have felt light traps, like cassettes from Ilford, Fuji or Kodak.

They are instead made up of two cylinders each cylinder has a large slot, when inside the camera the slots are aligned so that the film has a large gap rather then a felt light trap, when the basplate latch is turned to open the baseplate it also closes the cassette, the inner and outer cylinders are rotated relative to one another so there is not a gap.

Zeiss, and every one else copied this idea but made the camera body and cassettes so they were not compatible.

The (some of the) daylight loaders will open and close all these cassettes,

If you look at the kiev baseplate you will see the drive couplings for the kiev's style of cassette.

The cassettes should be good until you drop them badly. The only snag is that they are more expensive, the big advantage is no tramlines from grit in felt lighttraps.

I use them all the time never use the felt jobs

Noel
