I'm not going to argue with you, i'm sorry you like crappy music. I think it's hilarious that you consider at the drive in punk and social distortion is a joke.

Give me real rock and roll any day.
That was true back when punk first started appearing, but thats not the case anymore. There are lots of bands that fall under the (very broad) genre of punk that are just as talented as any other musician.

Bay 1 (30) b&W filters, lens(es) cap, hood and a 36mm push-on to 40.5 adapter for the three TLRs and Iskra medium format cameras I've just gathered as shooters, not including the Diana. A set of 36mm push-ons if I can't find the adapter and a case for the Minolta Autocord 'Export' would be nice too...Santa, are you listening???
Say, does anyone in here know if there is a bay 1 to 40.5 adapter made?
Cheers

kyle said:Just curious, which part do you disagree with? The no good bands in NY (I lied, Latterman from Long Island, NY is one of the best bands out there right now) or the Gainesville/Berkeley part?
I love punk and its many variant genres, no matter where the bands are from. What are some of your favorite bands?
Both, actually. I don't follow the NY scene closely, but The Bullys are fantastic. And I think most of the good punk stuff came from NY.
I'll have to admit to being pretty uptight when it comes to "punk" music. I'd don't really subscribe to the superbroad definition that gets used today, but some of my favorite bands include: Dead Kennedys, NY Dolls, Johnny Thunders, Richard Hell, The Dictators, Iggy, The Damned, Devo, Lou Reed, The Dead Boys, The Avengers, The Meatmen..all that moldy old ..stuff.. I could go on forever. Not that I don't like newer music, Anti-Flag (pre-RCA!), The Vandals, The Epoxies, etc, are all OK in my book. What about you?
As far as punk photographers go, #1 in my book is Roberta Bayley.
It's funny to see "Please Kill Me" mentioned..I'm actually working with John Holstrom on an interview & some photos of The Damned.
PS: Punk definitely started in NYC! It wasn't till The Ramones played the Roundhouse did the UK get off it's butt.
PPS: I didn't even realize James Chance was still alive. Thought he ate it a few years after Anya.

photography - here's a few i mull over from time to time:
1. an adapter to use the mamiya7 lenses on a mamiya6.
2. a mfg to revive the soon-to-be no longer available type 80 polaroid.
3. hasselblad swc(m).
4. time and space again for a wet darkroom.
5. while i'm fantasizing about mamiya6 adaptors: how about a visoflex ?
non-photography:
1. visit all the places my wife would like to see and for her to have all the things she never asks for.
2. a satellite phone. i just wanna roll my truck window down sometimes and chunk my cellphone out in the too-numerous dead zones throughout the usa...i've tried almost all the carriers and had similar results once i get off the interstates and onto state highwways.
3. a '71,72 or '75 citroen ds21. one that's in fair shape and wouldn't take too much knuckle-busting to make a daily driver out of.
3. a place in the country with a pond & a barn & requisite dogs, a horse or two, some ducks & chickens & a landing strip...
4. oh yeah, learn to fly!!!
5. for NEVER FORGET BESLAN to make a difference in the world.

what's not punk is tellin someone your sorry then turning around and telling them the music they listen to is ****ty. and to claim that anything at the drive in released was ****ty or didn't involve a whole lot of talent indicates to me that a) you've never played an instrument in your life and b) you have no idea what you're talking about. don't mistake "i don't likey like" with "they're no good"
the point was that punk never died... it morphed. grew. changed and was reflective of the scenes it arose from. texas, ny, seattle (check you're own backyard, zipgun perhaps?), vancouver, japan, norway etc.
because a band elects to not play the same three cords and say "oi" doesn't disqualify them from being punk.

yeah i do consider at the drive in punk and damn if i don't just dig on the social d. and in my books mike ness is a hell of a lot more punk than johnny rotten could ever hope to be.shodoman said:I'm not going to argue with you, i'm sorry you like crappy music. More time, good light, a bigger darkroom with running water and the return of Agfa MCP, Ilford MGIV just isn't the same.

RFF vs. Punk Routine.......
(hehe cheesy Refused reference....)
I thought this was a "i want lots of cool stuff" thread, not a "my music is better than yours" thread?
to get it back on topic-
I'd reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally like a Honda Fit right now- save on gas. And maybe a black Ikon. Yeah, a black Ikon would be nice.

I have somewhere in the vicinity of 120 rolls of undeveloped film, half slide and half b&w. It's all from my trip to Europe over the past year, which means I haven't seen a whole year worth of my own photographs.
Right now I want to have enough money to have the slides developed and scanned at high resolution, and enough time to light-proof the bathroom and develop the b&w film myself. And after that's done, I want it to give me the drive I need to get out and start taking pictures again.
Oh, and I want to get this darkroom equipment set up, so I can start printing. I have the space, but I'm broke and disorganised... *sigh*

dang BJ! I would like for you to be able to get all that film dev'd and scanned! knowing that that many latent images are just chillin on the film, collecting solar radiation daily breaks my heart!
and i thought i was bad for having about 30 rolls of E6/35mm....

Just get a changing bag! I always resisted buying them, they seemed fiddly or something. I finally bought one this weekend when I was at Freestyle. Now instead of loading up film in a dark bathroom, I can sit on the couch and watch TV while I load it up on the reel. $20 well spent.
