I have three because the electronic shutter is known to fail. In fact, I returned a T to the seller for that very reason (4-sec exposures only). Nothing beats a mechanical camera for the long haul. :)

You are thinking of the Aria, my favorite SLR, where metering has been done right. The over/under display scheme resembles a Canon DSLR, and is perfectly intuitive - as good as match-needle. :) All other Contax bodies have the blinking LED system, which is both annoying and undecipherable. I find matrix-metering an abomination since you're left in the dark (so to speak). In manual exposure mode, the Aria shows the difference between your chosen EV and the meter in its current mode (matrix, average, or spot). Neat, eh?

Stephen, congratulations on slimming down the list! Funny that your previous essential three are gone now! I guess you must be using mostly the current essential three?

Julian, a truly disgusting list, looks almost like a collector's list, with "too many" mutually-incompatible systems. Actually worse in that respect than my list. You didn't mention a can't-get-along-without list... so what among this varied stuff do you use/value most? :)

Incompatibility is the foundation of over-collecting. You betcha. As for what's most-liked, right now it's:

Konica IIIa (because it's the newest addition and it's quirky)
Konica RF (because it really is so much easier than a Leica I'm afraid)
Rollei 2000F (because it's the strangest damn camera in creation)
Nikon FM3a (because it's the best straightforward traditional film "shooter" there is)

My last year's wish list was for a Leica MP. I have my Leica IIIc now and that satifies my Leica lust. I wanted a Super Speed Graphic to get into large format. In the last year I refinished my old Speed Graphic, repaired my 4x5 Graflex SLR, and acquired the Burke & James and small Graflex SLR. There aren't two cameras that I want. Just the one. And I probably can't justify the cost. Now I just need to do some CLAs and a couple of repairs to get what I have in top shape. I'm happy with what I have. Is that wrong?

R2, R3a and Canonet are sold. Minolta x-700 and Maxxum 7000 are sold.
