Whatcha Got?

Um...

I'm forced to admit that eBay got the better of me again. My Yashica 4000ix APS camera died (may it rest in peace) and I thought to myself "If I have a dead camera, I can replace it and I haven't REALLY increased my number of usable cameras..."

Armed with this rationalization, I marched posthaste to eBay and promptly purchased this little fella...

It's got a stuck shutter but that should be relatively easy to fix (I hope). I seem to have developed quite a thing for little scale focus cameras in general after really getting to know my Trip 35 and Olympus cameras in particular... and it's half-frame too...

<sigh> I surrender, it's hopeless.

Add a Canon FP with a Tamron 28-50mm and Canon 55-135mm lenses to my list.

The FP and 55-135mm where given away free to me! I had to pay $50 for the 28-50mm. Mind you $50NZ for a complete old beater SLR system, not bad.

Doug, that's a cutie! I would only worry about the health of the selenium cell, as I understand these can deteriorate over time... and it's essential for the operation of this camera.

I like the half-frame Olympus cameras; used to have a Pen D2 and of course regret selling it!

With 'em I got the Nokton, AND an Ultron, AND... Well, a bunch of stuff. I'm festooned with Prominent gear. I like it.
 
People I work with think I'm crazy because I seem to be constantly buying cameras. Not really, but it seems that way. So the other day I made a list of what I got and here it is:

Nikon N90s, N60, Konica AutoReflex A, Minolta Hi-Matic 7s, Bronica SQa, Bush Pressman, Yashica 44D, Kodak Autographic 1A Jr. (circa 1917), Kodak 828 Pony, Canon Z115 (P&S), Konica/Minolta Z2, Nikon Coolpix 2000 (Xmas present for my 4 year old), and in the mail (waiting patiently) Moskva 5, FED 3, and Ansco Speedex R.

The 3 I'd keep:
Bronica SQa - my primary camera
Nikon N90s
and the third I'm not sure, maybe the Moskva 5 or the Busch 4x5 just because I like big B&w negatives.

You'll like that Ansco when you get it. It's amazingly compact when folded up - it fits in the rear pocket of my blue jeans perfectly. And 6x6 negatives are always a treat... :)

I do sometimes wish for a faster lens, but use it as it was intended (that generations point and shoot) and it's a very fine camera.

Doug, I've been lucky with selenium cells so far. My understanding with these cameras (and I'm very willing to be wrong on this) is that if the cell can't get enough light, the shutter can't fire so I'm hoping the facts that the shutter is currently stuck open and that it's being sold with the original case are good indicators of the camera's health. In any case, if it doesn't work and can't be repaired I didn't spend a lot of money on it so I won't be too horribly disappointed.... I think :)

Thanks for the vote of confidence on the Ansco. Being primarily a 6x6 shooter, I can't wait to have a 6x6 pocket shooter. Can't wait for the Moskva 5. Really think I will like the 6x9 negative, and the Moskva comes with the 6x6 mask. That will give me a 6x6 with a 105mm lens.

And since I wrote the list this afternoon, add a baby blue FED 2 to the list. Just got it on Ebay this evening.

My FM and FE2 get very little use. But I keep a 55mm F1.2 AI on the F2AS and it gets the "action".

If I had to cut the collection down to two cameras? You mean as in Carry two at a time going out, I usually only take Two out at a time anyway.

Essex camera repaired my Canon 7 (jammed shutter and advance) for $138. This included return shipping.

I am sure the Canon forum would like to see that Canon P back in action.
