If translating "Endgültig" to "final" and "Auflösung" to "solution" is offensive then calling somebody a "Zeiss Nazi" is offensive too.
I concur it is offensive, I concur it should not be done, My point is that what is not considered as offensive in one place and culture is extremely offensive in other languages and cultures. By saying "Let it Go" I just was trying to be a cool voice here and hope the guy wasnt trying to be as offensive as he came accross.

Boy is this off topic now! Better that we leave all the linguistics to another time and place, rather than get into a whole lot of bad blood.
That said, I can't hold my toungue any longer....maybe it's my finely tuned sense of black humor, but it amuses and disturbs me that so many Germans get so offended these days at insinuations that they might be or might have been Nazis.
I'd better bite my toungue before I get any further. I'm just disturbed at the general trend these days for Germans to say they've been maligned. Then again, the whole fiasco with "final solution" in this thread was a little bit of a joke as well.....

Do you really suggest we'd better let somebody go because HE does not know how violating his offenses are for us ? That is a strange POV, to say the least !!![]()
Maybe some keep it as an acceptable attitude to speak about things they don't know nothing about, but they shall be warned : When it comes to derisive remarks or offenses of ethnic groups or races or nations my tolerance is zero !
And you , the guy with the big letters, you better learn to speak my language propperly. Or leave it alone !

You better learn how to spell Properly correctly before you try to tell someone off for writing something thats not even remotely directed at you and is in no way offensive towards the general public of said languge and is commenly used as a linguistic joke aimed at non German speaking tourists inside Germany.
RObert Budding
D'oh!
I agree, Bertram. We should not have to tolerate derisive remarks.

Somewhere, sitting with a smug grin on his face is Bill M.
He used some kind of software sorcery to "solve" this ZF "puzzle" a couple of weeks ago.
C'mon, Bill, out with it - before folks here start tearing each other to pieces!

George,
It had to have been a prank to see how many of us would download a hex editor and try to open the jpg. If he really had something, he would have been the first to let us know.

Pointing on my typo instead of answering my objection tells me that you are exactly what I keep you for and it fits well to your p.net-style of communication.
What makes it really funny tho is that you obviously have to learn some more English lessons yourself, because "commenly" isn't a typo.
Take care, it's not THAT easy !

The funny thing if you google < bertram photo > and then count down to number 8.

Bryan, to be true, I'm not interested in Zeiss lenses for Nikon SLRs, the ones for Contax SLRs serve my purposes very well.

Apparently it depends on where you are googling from as to what number 8 is. Here in US I had to go to the second page and a couple down from there to find the reference.
I won't comment on the referred site or subject.
But it does go to show the global reach of RFF that we are all googling and getting different results.
Gentlemen (I note that none of the Ladies will even bother with this thread), how about we put aside the nazi thing? It is not relevant and far too inflammatory.
Please?
