so, days stress is behind, and you want to relax a bit before meet with sandman. what you usually pic up from your night table?

reason for my curiosity is that I feel a bit guilty I usually find myself in bed with my notebook (no jokes please!).. not with good book like before when Internet was not so common and computers not so mobile.

I have several of the things listed above so its kind of hard choosing just one..

A large mountain of books (some read, and others to be read), alarm clock, and cat brush.
Oh, and so not to upset the kitties, the sex toys are kept inside the night table.

I picked "favorite book" even though "current book" is the better answer for me. Big glass of water, my eyeglasses and watch, reading lamp.

There are two glasses.

One has water in it if I'd feel thirsty at night. The other one is empty, in case I don't.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

An alarm clock, a reading lamp, and a first edition of an old book by Theodore Roosevelt. The book looks good as a display piece on the nightstand that I built

I have mostly the weekly magazine (New Yorker) but certainly more than one weeks worth, more like twenty weeks worth, mixed in with a monthly magazine or two (Art on Paper & Art News), and here too several months worth. When the pile falls over I start fresh.

As well, many (really lots) of the subscription cards from said magazines, my ipod & headphones, a bunch of pens & pencils, and the darn alarm clock.

Oh, and dust. Plenty of dust.

A Bose WaveRadio. Serves as an alarm clock, and let's us fall asleep to some good classical music.
I do read before falling asleep sometimes, but nothing special.
Glasses? Sometimes I'll have one of those too, usuelly filled with a good adult beverage (like a good Irish or Scotch whisky).

Lamp
Cell phone (we have no land line)
Whatever my wife handed me late at night when she realized that her night table was already full of crap and she had no place to put it.

Sorry for the delay, I had to go up stairs and get them...

I have lamp, an alarm clock, and two books. Usually it's "the very hungry catepillar" and "bear snores on"

A Spanish translation of "The Budda of Suburbia" by Hanif Kureishi, a draft of a paper I have to submit soon, four watches, a short novel of Julio Cortázar, and a couple of contact prints I always forget to put where they should be. But I have no table they are all on the floor around the bed...

Same here, it's hands down my favorite magazine and the only one I dedicate any resonable amount of time to, but they come so frequent it's hard to keep up!
