Is it a real lens cap or just a piece of orange paper from the packaging?

Yes, Right There
I can only assume it's something like a warning sticker on the body cap

It says, "Warning - for sensor cleaning instructions please see page xxx."

Apparently they are afraid someone will use an old T-Shirt to clean the sensor before reading the manual.
It says:
"Attention: for sensor cleaning, please see instructions, p. 60/128"
Ah, someone beat me to it.

Oh so it's like telling us our $7000 camera is recyclable when we're ready to dispose of it?

I just think it's interesting that every used M8 I see still has the sticker on the body cap. I guess folks think about selling in the future and figure the buyer of an M8 would want that sticker still on there. Kinda like folks who leave the price sticker on the window of their new car for a few months.

My M8 always has a lens on it so I just threw the body cap in the original box when I bought it... when I sell my M8, I'll find the body cap (with sticker) and sell it.

Sshhh!!! You've given away the secret to a non believer. Only Digital M owners are allowed to know.
I did not bother to take the orange sticker off of my M8's body cap.
None of my Leica's have a body cap on them, all of them have a lens on them. The only camera that I keep a body cap on is the Canon III with bad shutter curtains. I use it to test the RF cam vs distance scale on lenses that I am shimming.
But reading this thread, now I know where to look for sensor cleaning instructions.

The best camera is one that still works!
Hey ... my OM-1 has the little oval 'passed' sticker on the side of the prism housing and I'm not taking that off for anyone!

Actually Leica only removes half the protective paper from the adhesive, so it is only stuck on half
Getting the goo off of the JC-II stickers is a PINTA. Use Ronsonol.

I think this is the best RFF Leica thread yet! We are discussing the orange sticker on a body cap!! lol
And don't forget JC-II stickers.
Okay- what were the orange "K" stickers on the wind lever cap of the Nikon F2 all about????
And those labels on furniture! "DO NOT REMOVE UNDER PENALTY OF LAW"
At least Leica does not threaten M8 and M9 owners to not remove the orange sticker under penalty of law like those furniture companies.

I was definitely waiting for the knock on the door when I peeled mine off!
This thread makes me want an orange sticker.
Orange sticker for the Leica or orange sticker for the F2 wind cover...
I have both. Never use the Leica one.

The sticker shows the expiration date (month, day, year) of the body.
Well, I am not getting that sticker stuck to me!
