I always wondered what the Japan Camera Industry Institute actually used for criteria to put those "passed" stickers on cameras and lenses.
Orange sticker for the Leica or orange sticker for the F2 wind cover...
I have both. Never use the Leica one.
This thread makes me want an orange sticker.
This is not regular sensor, very fragile, only 0,5mm cover glass filter, easy to crack.![]()

I was told many years ago that they were passed for export stickers. Nothing to do with camera quality control, but (I think) a tax thing. Everyone seemed to think it meant their camera was certified pure and good.
I just think it's interesting that every used M8 I see still has the sticker on the body cap. I guess folks think about selling in the future and figure the buyer of an M8 would want that sticker still on there. Kinda like folks who leave the price sticker on the window of their new car for a few months. 🙂

It was the time period... Japanese products being exported had some serious quality issues and it was starting to impact their trade / reputation. Given the quality and market for Japanese electronics these days, I'd say the quality control did have a serious impact.
Same with the plastic on the bottom plate... Though this is at least somewhat useful... 😀
