What's that stupid orange thing on all the M8s?

If you want full Infrared, stick the orange sticker to the sensor.

I have both. Never use the Leica one.

Nah, I just want the orange sticker to stick to my Petri 7s Green-o-matic rangefinder. 🙂

Those JC-II stickers are real gold...right...???
I've always left them on...unless they're just about falling off...and you can always tell where they were after they are removed...(well at least on black paint cameras)

This is not regular sensor, very fragile, only 0,5mm cover glass filter, easy to crack.

That was a manufacturing flaw by Kodak, less than 30 cameras affected, solved for months now, not likely to repeat. Those cracks were spontaneous, btw and not due to force on the cover glass. Thanks fo this image 🙂

I was told many years ago that they were passed for export stickers. Nothing to do with camera quality control, but (I think) a tax thing. Everyone seemed to think it meant their camera was certified pure and good.

It was the time period... Japanese products being exported had some serious quality issues and it was starting to impact their trade / reputation. Given the quality and market for Japanese electronics these days, I'd say the quality control did have a serious impact.

I just think it's interesting that every used M8 I see still has the sticker on the body cap. I guess folks think about selling in the future and figure the buyer of an M8 would want that sticker still on there. Kinda like folks who leave the price sticker on the window of their new car for a few months. 🙂

...or like some dumb asses leave the tailor's label on the sleeve of a suit coat. Do they think that is status? (sorry for the completely OT comment).

I thought I remembered reading in Modern Photography that there were in fact standards, and that cameras were periodically pulled from manufacturers line for testing to those standards.

I don't think the standards were up to current Leica standards. 😀

My Wetzlar M6 still has that plastic.

O.T. I once assembled a lawnmover for my sister that she bought at Home Depot, and it came with all kinds of warning stickers to avoid litigation. One of the stickers said, "Do Not Drink Gasoline." LOL.
