What's the skinny on the Canon VI-T?

Okay, I've just handled a Canon VI-T "in the flesh". Peering through the finder felt quite normal; nothing like peering through a strong pair of glasses. The rangefinder patch is circular and its edges are fuzzy, but it is nice and contrasty even in dark, low-contrast situations.

The one at Leica shop?

Yes, Roman. I'm probably not buying that one though because it's rather overpriced. We shall see what the Internet has to offer. It doesn't look as though any RFF user will sell me one. 🙂

You can't even get anyone to give up a Canonet around here. I need to find a parts camera to repair one, test it, and let it go..

The VI-t just came back from Essex with a beautiful finder. I'm going to have to sell something, but more likely a Canon 7. I'm trying to keep the Leica's even with the Canon's, kind of like the Washington Naval Treaty. Waiting for results back from the J-3 so I can put a lens up with it.

...well, you could get ME to sell my excess L1. Nice. I'll go into email detail if somebody's interested. Or trade for 75mm CV or nice fast 85mm...

2 Ps are plenty.

..or you might be interested in a beeeyoootiful IIIC. Same deal.

Both cameras have good shutter speeds and nice, bright focus patches.

If only you'd been looking at the beginning of the summer. I sold a VI-T here on RFF for $150 back in June (so Brian got a slightly better deal 🙂 ). It was a second VI-T body and needed a CLA (shutter speeds were capping above 1/250), and my other VI-T was in better shape w/ no CLA required.

thanks for the heads up.

i put it on my watch list but then discovered the seller only ships to the states.

Joe: I'd be happy to assist with the bidding and/or shipping if you want it. It's not a big deal for me to bring it across and ship it, as I make it to Ontario quite frequently.

Here, here Joe.

I can't understand this either, especially on wee items - it can't be language difficulties and the seller has to make a trip to the Post Office to send the goods anyway.

The buyer will already have been paid for all the postage costs AND of course the item upfront. What's the problem if paid by Paypal as usually specified in his auction terms & conditions - it's the buyer is taking all the risks with regarding condition, etc.

In my experience, most guys are helpful though.

Anybody requiring assistance with the same sort of situation from auctions in the the U.K., just drop me a note

Speaking from experience, most users who've specified shipping only to their own country are perfectly willing to make exceptions when asked nicely. Usually it's just a matter of their being too lazy to calculate the extra shipping costs in advance.

I'm still waiting for the second set of free sync covers to make it to Frank. Lesson learned, declare everything no matter how small. The first set of tiny-little rubber caps sent in an envelope, worth under $0.50, literally discards at work, were confiscated and an empty envelope delivered with no explanation. The second is on its way, with custom's form on the plain white envelope, stamped all over "fragile" by the Postal clerk who found it incredible that we had to declare it. If it does not make it, I give up.

scott, i think brian is looking for a parts canonet and hoot is looking for the 6t.

hard to keep track without a scorecard sometimes.

hey, did the lll show up yet?

joe

I knew that, actually -- my point is that my VI-T went for only $10 more than the one Brian got on ebay recently, and that it's too bad hoot wasn't looking for one back when I listed it.

I guess "you" is almost always ambiguous around here.

Anyway, as of yesterday, the III had not arrived. I think I'm paying for my prior fast packages from canada -- 3 fast packages, now some slow ones.

Spent the day with the Canon VI-T at the National Zoo, used it mostly with the Nikkor 8.5cm f2 and Nikkor 13.5cm F3.5. I decided to leave the 200mm F4.5 Komura at home.

The trigger wind is easy to get used to, I did not have to take the camera from my eye for sequence shots. I dis not get 3FPS out of it, but certainly 1FPS was reasonable.
