Hi,
This was used before we had seperate X adn M sockets.
It sets the time when the flash goes of. Obvious this time is different for electronic flash and bulbs. Also different bulbs may have different times. With the correct setting you can use electronic flash with this camera.
Cheers,

Ohhh, :bang: thank you...I'm a bit disappointed, I was thinking/hoping:
1. EV numbers to set the speed, given one aperture and one asa
2. Dial to fix a Leicameter to engage the shutter speed dial to have an aperture priority option.
Btw, no leicameter is supposed to work this way other than in M cameras, isn'it?

Correct. The spinning shutter speed dial prevents it.andrealed said:Btw, no leicameter is supposed to work this way other than in M cameras, isn'it?

Keep it at '0' for electric flashes.
BTW - that's a very clean looking Leica.

If it's a black dial set to 2 for electronic flash and the shutter to 1/30th. If it's a red dial set to 0 and 1/25th or 20 and 1/50th..

Speaking of flashbulbs I go a bit OT but, does anybody know wheter are they still produced and available from somewhere? I found a small neat "Agfa" flashbulb-unit in a box in my parents' house (I think it was bought together with a Voightllander in the late 60's) and I would love to use it with my skrewmount Leica but I suspect I am going to have hard time finding the bulbs (in fact, I have one of the original boxes with still 7 units but I don't want to use them unless I know I can buy spares).

PS
By the way, I don't have the unit handy so I cannot give you the precise values but I noticed a table on the back of the unit which would call for a surprisingly high number guide for such a small device (perhaps 1.5x2.5 inches or so). Were/are flashbulbs so powerful?

I get tons of flashbulbs buying old camera kits from thrift stores. They sell you the whole bag with all the junk that was in it, including the camera, lenses, cable releases, bulbs, flash attachments, film, whatever. I have drawers full of them. And I use them!

Wait... that camera is a black dial. It's very clearly shown in the picture.

Someone has a good eye for serial #'s and shutters speed dials. Just a hunch, but the Amanda photo was definitely not shot in Salt Lake City, Utah.
