I think you had better explain further what is between the lens and the camera: photographing a gnat's ass comes to mind with this set up.

LOL Here it is set to shoot out to about 50 feet. Min is around 3 meters.
A proper adapter for this lens to say, nikon or M, is like 150USD, if you can find one. Or more 🙁
So I took the adapter I had, going to nothing, literally no mount (still sells for 100USD) and glued one end of an extension tube to it. Then I add or subtract tubes to hit infinity or closer. It's a fair number of tubes just to infinity. Then i add a few to get in range of my birds.
I've had the lens for years but never adapted it. So these are my very first shots:

What mount was it originally manufactured for? Unless I've missed it, I don't think you've mentioned that. I seem to recall reading that some Kilfitt lenses were made in Exakta mount, but I'm not sure in which if any other mounts.

Hmm. The 'longest' lens I have is a 350mm Petzval I picked up at a old timer car trade show a year ago. The biggest must be a 300mm f/5.6 in M42 I have stashed somewhere.

I don't own (or need) anything over 200mm, so I'll go with a different definition of "big": my Canon FDn 135mm f2, which is just a big, chunky bucket of glass. My X-E1 just barely peaks out from the sides.

Nice one. I think the distance/depth-of-field scale on the lens barrel makes it look really cool, but I especially like that the closest focus distance is only 3m. That is an often under-appreciated spec for a telephoto lens, but one which I have learned is critical for birding and other smaller targets.
Here is mine, a Canon FDn 150-600mm 5.6/L zoom.
I was fortunate to purchase this at a good price about 10 years ago and enjoy using it for birds, wildlife in general, a little astrophotography, and other things. Closest focus is 3m, and it works great with teleconverters too.

I used to have a Nikon 600/5.6 AIS that I had converted to AIP (i.e., chipped) by Roland Eliott, but at some point, I decided that manually focusing a 600mm lens on a gimbal head was not for me.
I just received the new Nikon 200-500mm/5.6 last Wednesday, but have not done anything with it other than take it out of the box to attach a QR plate on it -- been too busy and it's been in the high 90's / 100's here the past few days.
I might drive out to a local lake for some birding later today before the sun goes down and/or at sunrise tomorrow.

My largest lens is the Pentax-67 300mm f/4 that came with a used 6x7 body and other stuff, including a 2x teleconverter that adds some more length... 🙂
It only focuses down to 5m, but that of course doesn't change with the 2x. I have adapters to use it on Pentax 645, Pentax K-mount, and Leica S but have used it only on the P6x7 camera.

In bright sun, I can use this with Eastman 5222 XX film.
Shown on my motorized Minolta SR-M, with gimbal head and Zone VI lightweight tripod.
Ideal for birding in full sunlight.
I need the longer focal length because I am shooting film. I enjoy the challenges of doing this vs shooting digital.

The mount is a separate piece and you get the one which applies. Alpa, Contarex, Leica M, Nikon F or even a Canon were available, but now are hoarded and fetch high prices.
With glue I made my own mount adapter using extension tubes. It attaches to the generic WE adapter, countless which the lens happened to come with.
