What's your "camera roadmap"

Hmmm,

I think it goes:

Prinzmatic crappy 126 camera
Olympus OM1 (still have it)
Olympus OM4 (sold)
Nikon F4 (sold)
Nikon FM2n (sold)
Nikon F5 (still have it)
Olympus Mju II (broke it)
Olympus OM2n (sold)
Nikon D100 (sold)
Nikon D200 (still have it)
Leica M6 TTL (sold)
Leica MP (still have it)
Olympus OM3 (sold)
Olympus OM1n (still have it)
Pentax 67ii (still have it)
Leica IIIc (still have it)
Pentax 645 (still have it)
Minox B (still have it)
Minox LX (still have it)
Nikonos V (still have it)
Olympus OM4ti (still have it)

In mitigation, I should say that the only cameras I bought new were the Nikon F4, F5, D100, D200 and Leica MP: the rest were/are relatively modestly priced used 'shooters' which I use pretty regularly

minolta analogp&s it's somewhere... donno where...
nikon digital p&s sold
olympus om-1 still have and use
olympus om-2 sold
olympus e-420 sold
holgaroid still fun to use time to time
leica m8 my primary camera
leica md2 for my wide angle needs, and it looks cool, but thinking of selling

got maybe 5 lenses for the OM- and 7 for the M-system

My map began with my fathers Kodak Rettinette camera found in a closet.
Then: Pentax ME, MX, Rollei TE, switch to Nikon: FE2, FM2

The middle part is complicated and memory fails me. Many cameras under the bridge.

Here I am at RFF.

Pretty much me too, except it was my father's Welta Welti and 9x12 with 127 back. Then through a series of folders, Minota 16, yashica SLR to the Fujica SLR, and Super Press 23 as main cameras. Too many others to mention. I don't even have an inventory of them at this point.

1) 2003 - Olympus C_5060WZ ("high end digital P&S")
- sold 2 years later to fund Minolta 7D
2) 2006 - Minolta 7D (still have, but do not enjoy much)
3) 2006 - Tachihara 4x5 (Mamiya 6 seemed to expensive at that time, still have)
4) 2007 - Rolleiflex T (loved it, sold this year to fund Mamiya 6, miss it)
5) 2008 - Olympus XA (sold, not happy with performance)
6) 2010 - Fuji Sivli f2.8 zoom (nice little P&S, may sell in the future)
7) 2010 - Mamiya 6 + 50, 75, 150 (great, plan to keep)
8) 2010 - Konica Auto S3 (nice little camera, still testing)

.. so right now 5 cameras ..

Hmm...
Played with the various instamatics my mother owned while growing up. Got to Germany in the Army (~1983) and picked up a Canon AE-1. Ironically that was about the same time my mother got serious about photography and bought ... a Canon AE-1. Then again, so did a whole heck of a lot of other people during it's run :)

Stupidly sold mine at a pawn shop, OTOH, I still have hers.

Later picked up a decent Canon Rebel XS with the kit zoom. It did me well for a decade till I started getting serious about photography. I picked up a Yashica Mat 124G and loved what that big ass*d square could show. A while later I bought a Yashica GS based on my experiance with that TLR. Trying to find out how to use it lead me here & the rest of the "road map" is a terrible blur as I bought and sold way too many cameras.

Standouts:
Kiev 4m
Kiev 5
Iskra
Moskva 5
Agfa Karat 36
Anniversary Speed Graphic 4x5
Ansco Speedex Special
Leica CL
Canon FtbN
Canon T90
Agfa Isolette III
Miniature Speed Graphic (2x3)

Ye gads, has it really been almost 4 years?

Since then, I bought & sold way too many more things untill about a year and a half ago when I sold almost everything to finance the IIIf. I don't see much change here out unless I win the lotto. See my sig for what I still own and use.

Standouts in the meantime:
Bessa R
Bessa R2C (borrowed)
Bessa I
Zeiss Ikoflex
Zeiss Ikonta (bought, sold, bought back again ;) )
Another Canon AE1
Another Kiev 4
Canon 7
Canon IVSb
Olympus OM-1 (several. I keep thinking I should like it and being reminded that I really don't.)

William

I'll play

Vivitar 710 (childhood)
Pentax Super Program (teen years) - my passion is kindled
Olympus Epic Stylus (late 20's) - married with child / no money, no time
Nikon D70 (early 30's) - getting back into photography after a long absence
Canon 5D (mid-30's) - desire for full-frame
Canon G9 (mid-30's) - "needed" digital p&s
Canon 5DmkII (late 30's) - started shooting weddings professionally
Leica M6 Classic (late 30's) - Back to film and home development!
Hasselblad 500 C/M (late 30's) - Stepping Up to MF

I love this forum. So many like minded individuals.

I had some crappy p&s's when I was little but here are the ones I bought to take actual pictures:

2005 - Fuji A350 - Digi p&s, stolen

2007 - Lomo Colorsplash - Still have it, but a friend has been using it for a long time now

2008 - Canon Rebel 2000 - Gave to my best friend 2 months ago to use while I fix her Konica FT-1. This is her first SLR and she has already made some great pictures with it.

2008 - Canon 10D - Still have it and use it, although not as much as i used to. Very reliable and rugged camera and still very capable.

2009 - Kodak 3A model C folder - Still have it but in parts, using it to build another camera.

2009 - Zeiss Ikon Contaflex - Still have it, still use it, still love it

2010 - Canon EOS A2E, EOS A2 - Bought them for 20 bucks with the command dial broken, fixed them and still have them. Very capable cameras

2010 - Kodak Retinette IA - Got if for a few bucks at an antique market, still have it but i might sell it, i don't dig the extremely soft corners when focusing close

2010 - Leica M4 (black paint) - My first RF. I LOVE this camera. The 35mm Summilux pre-asph doesn't have me as impressed though. I shoot in extremely low light a lot of the time, so wide open performance is very important to me, and this lens has more vignetting and flare than I can tolerate, so I'll sell it to get a Nokton 1.2 soon. Still, great lens when given the right conditions.

Well this is fun.

  1. Kodak Instamatic 110 - Xmas gift 1976 (thrown out in 1981)
  2. Kodak Brownie Holiday Flash - St. Vincent DePauls find 1984 (sold at garage sale 1990 / recently saw one in a shop for $94!)
  3. Nikon FM2n - bought 1985 (still own / an old well-brassed friend whose shutter speed dial now turns the wrong way)
  4. Arca Swiss F-Line C - bought 1995 (still own / one day I'll unleash my inner Minor White - I know I will!)
  5. Hasselblad 500 C/M - bought 1996 (still own / perfection itself)
  6. M6 TTL - bought 1999 (stolen 2006 / I thought this would be my one Leica for this lifetime - guess again!)
  7. Nikon D200 - bought 2005 (hated it / sold 2005 / did I mentioned how I hated it?)
  8. M6 TTL - bought 2006 (still own / black paint is beautiful thing)
  9. M8 - bought 2008 (still own / currently my favorite camera, and with me every day)
  10. R6 - bought 2009 (still own / the combination of the 80mm Summilux and Ektar 100 is reason enough to have one)

From the beginning...

Once in a while, Mom would let me use her Spotmatic and even more rarely, her Yashicamat 124G but those were hers, not mine to own.

The "serious" cameras I've owned are:
Kodak 110 Instamatic
Pentax ME Super
Pentax ZX5n
Contax RX
Contax AX (only for a month though)
Nikon F3 (x2)
Nikon F4
Konica Hexar AF
Nikon D100
Bronica S2a
Leica M2
Nikon D2h (US Navy issue)
Leica M4
Canon EOS 10D
Konica Hexar RF
Bronica ECTL
Fuji G690 BL
Anniversary Speed Graphic
Leica M8
Leica M9

Within that list are peppered dozens of cameras which I have rescued from swap meets and estate sales. Some were just point and shoots, some were fixed lens rangefinders, some were very serious professional tools but had to move on to greener pastures and get used more.

I'll add my rather boring list to those who have spent far more time than me buying and selling.
1. Yaschica TL Electro bought new in 1974 (died and was buried 10 years later)
2. Nikon FA bought new in 1985 (still have it)
3. Hexar Rf " " " 2003 ( " " ")
4. Leica M6ttl " " " 2006 (best camera ever)

A Panasonic GF1 " " " 2010 (a mistake)

Nikon FM and FE2 bought secondhand to complement the FA (still have both but only use the FE2 regularly.)

A Bronica EC (still have it)

Two Yashica Electros, a Zorki 4K and Olympus SP bought to find out what the fuss was all about (very little). Still have them because it's more hassle than what it's worth to sell them.

I have (and still have) many lenses to support the above. So in 36 years of photography I've only had 4 new cameras (the GF1 aside) and don't feel deprived because of it.
