Gosh look at all those cameras. Amazing.

Here's my list of cameras I've owned.

Canon T90 (gave it away)
3 x EOS30 series (one died, the other two I still have)
Canon 5D
Voigtlander R2a

Family owned 127, then 126, then 110 cameras (we were always fashion victims:) )
Zenit E w 58mm Helios - 1st 35mm camera - 1975 - sold to pay bills 1986
Some kind of cheap P&S
Cosina C1 + horrid zoom lenses - 1992
Pentax 928 P&S - traded to partner for -
Pentax K1000 w 50f2 - the madness began here
Pentax ME + more K mount lenses, 24 f2.8, 135 f3.5, 24-35 f3.5 zoom, 75-150 f4 zoom, 40 f2.8
Olympus XA - rangefinder madness begins here
Bessa R w 35 f1.7 - stop using SLR's - add more CV lenses 25 f4, 50 f2.5, 90 f3.5
Trade Bessa, 25 and 50 for M6TTL + M adapters for 35 and 90 - now we're really getting crazy :)
Add Leica lenses and sell CV glass
Leica M2 w 50 f2.8 Elmar - becomes favourite outfit. Vow to sell M6TTL and buy a second M2

Somewhere in there was a crazy search for the perfect P&S during which I realised I hated any kind of automation in a camera. Is this that "living and learning" thing I hear so much about? ;)

Hmm.. Thinking back:

Assorted 126 instamatics as a kid
Olympus OM20 - first "real" camera
Olympus XA2 - passed down from my mother
Olympus OM-4 - expanding the Oly SLRs (later stolen in break-in)
gradual loss of interest in photography

Olympus Stylus P&S - bought while travelling, takes good pics
Olympus OM-4T - haggled for over months in HK as replacement
Canon IXUS II - first digicam, re-kindles real interest in photography
Canon S1 IS - "superzoom" digicam
Canon 300D - first dSLR; wow!; start spending money on glass
Canon IXUS 40 - replace IXUS II stolen in coffee shop
Canon 30D - better AF; other advantages

Tried to use OM-4T for "street photography" with real full-frame sensor, but was disapointed with the results (mostly due to hit-or-miss focus in low light). Researched further, and (along with other things) this led me to rangefinders. So I found:

Konica Hexar RF - first rangefinder, September this year - fell in love!
Zorki 4 & 6 - for fun, and they are fun
Leica M3 DS - accidental eBay win at a "speculator" low price

The future?

Sumilux 75/1.4 - good price, off being CLAd before use
fast 40 or 50mm - I need a low-light lens in this range (but which?)
FED-1 - for a cheap emulation of early Leica ergonomics
Kiev 4a - for a cheap emulation of Contax ergonomics
Canon dSLR - if there's a sufficiently compelling upgrade in AF
Canon 70-200/2.8IS - I want one, but can't justify it
Canon EF 50/1.2 - maybe, maybe - but too early to tell if its any good
vague stirrings of Noctilust

...Mike

Hey, markinlondon & All...

There is NO perfect P & S. I've owned and sold several, and enjoy the 4MP Canon S410, a 2003 model.

Late model, or vintage, it seems to me that we're here to show & tell with the great RF's & superb optics... that have proven themselves over time.

And Mark, I like your Avatar.
Ciao, mike

Next a Pentax 35 and 70 mm point-and-shoot
First serious camera: Nikon N6006 (bought when I lived in the States)
Traded for a Nikon FM2n, which I still have; used for macro work.
Bought a Voigtlander R2, which I still have; now my main camera.
Inherited the Korelle folder.

Doctor Zero

Praktica Super TL 1000 (still use it)
Fed-1 (sold it for a fed-2)
Fed-2
second Praktica Super TL 1000

What I still need/want: Leica M3

I started with a bulletproof kiddie Kodak 110 when very young, and moved on to a Keystone 35mm P&S at some point.

Ricoh XR-10 & KR-10 late in high school after borrowing my father's X-700

The last two years of college, I moved up to: CiroFlex, RicohFlex, Agfa/Anso folders, and various other inexpensive antiques (I was poor, what can I say?). I did get a Pentax ZX-M before graduating, and a Minox B, now that I think about it.

At some point, my father got into Nikon non-AI stuff, and I got all his duplicate lenses, so I purchased a Nikkormat and F2 as a Master's student. But the big change was my Rolleiflex Automat II I bought my first year of MS work.

Since starting my PhD, my collection has exploded. Two ratty Rolleiflexes, Mamiya 645E, Leica IIIc (my baby), Contax G1, two Oly OM-1's, SpeedGraphic 4x5, and a Pentax *ist DL (which brought all my old Pentax glass out of retirement).

Now that I've finishing my PhD up, and have a job when I do, I'm ready to move to a Leica M3 and MP, and maybe a nice Hassy. Bronica's were always interesting, too. Or maybe... (I've got a GAS problem, can you tell?)

Pentax 35mm
Fuji GS645 - rangefinder
Bronica ETRSi (6x4.5, many backs and lenses)
Industar FT2 (Russian panoramic 35mm)
