Fred said:Personal preference is M7 and 50 Cron
But the 35 Cron is what tends to be used the most...... which is odd...
Funny you should say that, Fred. After a discussion on relative merits of Summicrons with another RFF'er the other day I thought I'd been using 35 a lot lately and should use my 50 more. Went for a walk and shoot over lunch the last three days and the 50 frame felt oddly shut in. So my preference is (perversely) M6TTL and 35 'cron outdoors, but same body with 50 'cron indoors (usually used up close).

Frank...must you post pictures of that gorgeous M3 of yours? Seriously, I'm trying to save up for Leica glass and keep my R2a. You make it very hard to resist the lure of the M3 with pictures like that.

Agree with Frank, M3 with the Summarit.
But the CL with the Canon 50mm F1.5 is on the hit parade as well.

My favorite Leica Lens Body combo is a Hasselblad XPan with a 45mm lens.
OK, OK, but I could not resist.

Thanks Brad. Be patient. It took me quite a while (48 years) to get to where I am.

I would buy a Leica M2 and a 50mm 2.8 Elmar.
The Summarit is going for less than just about any other Leica lens, mine were under $240 each with a CLA factored in.

Leica M3 with Summicron 50/2 in chrome. Another contender is the Canon P with Canon 50/1.8 in chrome. Hybrids to be considered: Bessa T with Leitz viewfinder and Zeiss 5cm/2 Sonnar in LTM. It is a cool mix old and new technologies with a great end product; sharp lens with a body having TTL metering. The Bessa L with VC 25mm/4 is a clasic by now.

IIIF with collapsable Summicron. For me it's the best of what makes Leicas great....very small with outstanding optics. Plus it just looks so darned cool.

My favorite Leica body + lens combo? It's a Leica IIIc with a Jupiter 12 35/2.8. You can get that combination for quite a bit under #1,200.

May I suggest a Leica CL set with a 40mm Summicron-C f2.0, 90mm Elmar f4 (very sharp lens), and a 50mm f1.7 asp Nokton. All for about $1,200. It's compact with a camera meter built-in.
The Canon 50mm F1.5 is also a good choice for the CL:

It will fit in the little pouch case designed for the camera with the 40mm lens.
