Does everyone here need or even want a digital Leica? That was never my impression of RFF.

I don't expect any radical departures for the next M ... that's not the way Leica has been developing the M line. I expect subtle improvements.

Agreed.

I would like to see higher ISO - 50,000 maximum would be outstanding. That would bring the M-P 240 platform about 98.5% of the way to perfection IMHO.

Smaller, lighter, with up-to-date censor and processor. That's it. I can live without the video and focus peaking, but could also ignore them in practice.

The new model should include a replaceable sensor and software that can be updated and replaced when it gets long in the tooth.

That way I can keep my M262 as long as I like.

Nothing else needs changing.

Couldn't agree more!

I could justify the entry price into digital M if this was the case 🙂

Sounds very Stephen Lee-like, but his related ideas got him fired ...

The concept of an easily replaceable sensor has been discussed before and while it sounds very nice it adds challenging complexity to an already complex camera. As a retired machinist I can only speak to the problems of accurate positioning of the sensor and while it could be done it would add cost and complexity to the product. Some of my old film Nikons have film plane to lens mount accuracy of .0001 inch. That's one ten thousandths of an inch and digital would prefer that level of accuracy or better. Interchangeable sensor might happen but I have trouble imagining this done by anyone but a specialist. Joe

You may have a point but in today's cameras most have the ability to move the sensor for a number of reasons. Why couldn't one reason be to adjust the lens to sensor distance?

I actually think it is more doable with today's technology than it was in the past. Besides, I really wasn't considering a diy solution. Drop by your local Leica store, or send your camera in, and let the tech do the adjustments.

Would you want a 5 year old computer with a new hard drive to do pro work on..probably not..
Weakest link kinda thing..
Its a throw away society where computers are concerned..
Better to get a whole brand new cam..than replace parts..

That means only one potential sensor replacement .... I will need one of my kidneys for posterity. 😀

i hope Leica will introduce the new M in a relatively short time with the hope this bring too the market more pre owned 240 and their prices will drop to an accessible level for someone like me not so much devoted to digita...

Looks like no M240 replacement at Photokina 2016

I find that disappointing and very surprising.

No Nikon FF Mirrorless either, which I find even more disappointing and surprising.
Photokina 2016 is shaping up as the year where the biggest surprise is no surprises at all. Everybody gets to save their money, I guess.

Leica has spent their money on a bunch of amateur cameras . I have no interest in them and they are decades behind the curve.

Want to buy into the SL . No I do not at this point.

The big reflex is too big and too expensive and the lenses too big to carry even if I wished to invest.

All the R&D money is going into goofy cameras with low market and purchase of Sinar. I think they are coasting now and will toss M under the bus. Do I see another bankruptcy ?

We all want a modern M with sensor to match. Stubborn german company.

Announce a new M, Leica has far more important announcements to make than that!!!:

A new Leica Q Indonesia Edition 2016 camera was recently announced. Only 45 units will be produced. The top plate has an engraved map of Indonesia. Pricing is not yet announced. Shipping is expected to start in October.
